Looking For Group

Post by Josiah »

I've still got several comics I want to show you guys so I had a hard time choosing which one to do this week. In the end I (randomly) chose Looking For Group.

LFG is actually the first comic in a while that I just happened to stumble across and decided to read. It's a fantasy comic that's a little serious at times but mostly comedy. There is some fighting and violence but the fighting is handled well (and usually humorously) and it's nowhere near as violent as say Goblins. It's a little cliche at times (purposely I'd guess) but pretty funny.
Plot Summary: LFG follows a very mismatched group of people who all have very different goals but end up working together to achieve them. It's a full on fantasy and, despite what you might think from the name, it's got nothing to do with MMOs. The main characters are Cale'anon, a sincere and nieve elf who wants to do good and be the greatest hero ever; a rather violent ogre priestess with a huge debt to pay off; a minataur type creature who likes to study and seek lost knowledge (both his and her names escape me at the moment); and Richard, a warlock who just likes killing things. They get thrown together though a series of odd circumstances and all end up on the same quest, although for very different reasons.
Art: The strips are full pages, they've got backgrounds, and they're in color. All in all, the art is really good. Although, I've got to admit that Cale looks kinda weird in the first couple of strips...
Things to Know: LFG is a pretty new comic so there's only 77 strips out right now. Also, there's a lot of fantasy novel refferences hidden in it so if you're a fan of epic fantasy keep an eye out for those. If you're not, well the comic is still funny even if you don't notice them.
Favorite Strips: There's a lot of strips I really like, many of which involve Richard since I like well done funny evil characters. Richard and Cale's conversation at the end of this one is pretty good and his 'I have a dream' speech here is great, especially when you read Tavor's line at the end...

Wasn't I supposed to post now? And by the way, I've seen LFG. It's ok, but not my first choice. It seems to me to steal a bit from 8 Bit Theatre, and not in a clever way.

As I said when you joined, since you're new you'll go after Stevenson starting with the next cycle. As in, you'll go after Stevenson next time its his turn since new members don't get to have a week right after they join (the only exception being whent he club first started).

Also, I don't really see how it steals from 8-bit. I mean, Black Mage and Richard the warlock do both like violence and killing but that's about the only comparison you can make. Plus they go about things in very different ways (Richard doesn't go around stabbing his team mates for example) and none of the other main characters in LFG have any real similarites to the main characters from 8-bit (LFG has no idiot, twink, thief, or noble healer). I don't even recall any particularily similiar jokes that are shared between the comics.

It’s not often I find a comic that I’m entranced with from the very start, but I gotta say, this is being added to my daily read list. I love this comic! The art work is slick, the humour is top class, and the characters are extremely funny and seem have very distinct personalities.

This one is my fav comic http://lfgcomic.com/page/12
The fact Richard is trying to introduce himself about three or four times while everyone is fighting for there lives. Very classic joke, but well used.

In case anyone is interested, the author put a youtube movie in his latest news post. Seems it was done by him and some other people. It's nicely animated and features Richard singing a parody of a Disney song...while killing stuff. It's a bit on the violent side but pretty hillarious if you like Richard.

Wow, a comic that I've actually read before. Kinda a weird.. but :pepsi: .
This is one of my favourite webcomics, namely because of it's hilarity and gorgeous artwork. But mostly because of the hilarity. It was worth every copper. Really was.

I still say it steals a bit more from 8-Bit. An example would be that dude who was with Richard at the start (whose name escapes me) who had blind and naive ambitions and ideas about being a hero, something Fighter always does.

Yeah, the guy that was with Richard at the beginning? That was Cale. The main character. If you had read anything beyond the first few pages, you would know that...

But anyway, I really like this comic, which is why I read all 78 pages basically without moving at all. ...I'm really hungry now... Eh heh, Richard is the best. Especially when cosplaying as a ladder, or weilding a fork. And there's the whole evil but not really evil thing going, kind of like in Indefensible Positions... which is always good.

Aaand I'm obligated to link to the Star Wars reference.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

I really don't think you can say that Cale is much like Fighter. Did you really read 50 strips like you were supposed to?

Speaking of the fork, I wonder if he's really going to keep that...

Yeah, in case you haven't noticed, Cale isn't a blundering idiot like Fighter is.

I like it, in fact I like it so much that I would have also read all 78 pages if i hadn't been booted off the computer... yes there is a downside to having to use library computers.
Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Taipan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Stonefish and the poison thing that lives in a shell
That spikes you when you pick it up

~climbs back to the forums~ Ahhhh! I haven't touched my computer in almost a week thanks to homework and regular work! It's good to be back!
I've already read LFG, I started around the beginning on September (I saw an ad on VG Cats of Richard pointing to a burning building and shouting "That orphanage attacked me, you all saw it!" or something like that) and I love it! Especially how Richard gives off the impression of evil right off the bat. All the characters are well done and I love the art too.
I never saw that video of Richard singing and I didn't see it in the news bit, does anyone still have the url from it?

The link broke when it got moved into the old news section. Just go to youtube and search for "Slaughter the World" and you should find it pretty easily.
