Monster Rancher OOC
All right, people, you know the drill. I suppose I shouldn't be starting the OOC thread since I haven't joined the roleplay yet, but uh... I've watched episodes 1-50 of the anime. I own MR Advance, MR Advance 2, MR 3, MR 4, and MR EVO. I think it's safe to say I'm the Monster Rancher Guru. ...I'm having a really hard time not mentioning how similar that sounds to Garu.
Anyway. Doodle, there needs to be some discussion on how exactly this is going to work. It's all your call, I suppose, since it IS your RP (Baka! I planned to start one as soon as I got back, too!) but it would be nice if some aspects of the games were kept.
First of all, in the games, Monsters can't talk. That was exclusive to the anime. Because the games focus more on training your monsters strategically than beating up whatever baddies came after you. Heck, after MR 3, you didn't get stat boosts at all from fighting...
But that's besides the point. When Stevenson says 'Rancher' he probably means the ones that run the farms. Because that's what you do in all the games but 3 and EVO. You run a farm. Coincedentally, the series is called Monster Farm (Well, Monsutaa Faamu, but that's as close as you can get with katakana) in Japan... You own a ranch, and you train monsters to participate in tournaments. One Monster at a time in most games, but in 4 and EVO you got 5... but in EVO you also worked in a circus as opposed to a ranch.
And now I'm getting off topic and rambling. Monster Rancher does that. My point here is, I need to know what kind of Monster Rancher World I'm creating a character for. Though I guess it doesn't matter because for some reason, I feel compelled to create a Mogi character. On that note, I WILL be using Monsters that didn't appear in the anime. Go to legendcup.com for pictures, and monsterranchermetropolis.com for attack information (You may have to search the archives a bit).
And before I finally shut up... The N00b, if you didn't like the show, don't join the roleplay. You DON'T join roleplays just for the heck of joining. And I will NOT roleplay with someone that, first of all, doesn't know anything about the world of MR, and second, doesn't even care about it (A Tentacle? Seriously, what? Last I checked, there aren't any Monsters with tentacles - and I should know).
Yeah, this is weird for the forst post in an OOC thread...

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

So eventually, I started to lose faith... I thought you had been killed in that terrible, terrible war. Or maybe that you had forgotten about me. It's been so long, you probably found another girl over there... I never stopped loving you, but I didn't think you cared about me anymore, so welcoming you back just would have been too painful for me... I'm sorry. I'm glad you've come back home *sniff*

Er... I didn't intend to march in here and dethrone Doodle, but if he's all right with passing the torch, I have no issue with taking control, either.
Either way, it would be nice to have someone else's consent on how we're going to run this. The games were all about training using gadgets, coaches, and whatever else you had lying around, then participating in official tournaments, from which you would get money and fame. I know Stevenson's played some of them, on account of they were my games he was playing...
Of course, Moo was the final boss in Monster Rancher EVO. Looked a bit different though, on account of anime Moo just looks like a Dragon with a Ripper sub breed.

All right, I'm gonna try to get this set up here. What we're going for is a combination of the anime and the video games - It's like Fantasy Football, but with Monster Rancher. We're definitely keeping the monster talking aspect, because it's more fun that way and it makes the Pokemon clonishness slightly less blatant. Of course, if we were just going to wander around and beat up baddies as in the anime, the humans would be completely useless, which is why we're not going to do that. Most of the monster battles will take place in tournaments. The primary objective will be climbing the ranks and all that fun stuff. For now at least. A "Let's defeat Mu!" plot may or may not arise in the future... But he will be called "Mu", not "Moo". Mu = Japanese word meaning 'Nothing'. Moo = completely non-threatening cow sound. Really, whoever decided to change the spelling when they translated it into English...
Well, anyway, we're all going to be Monster Ranchers. The kind that live on... Ranches. I mean, I guess you don't have to... you could just be a monster, I suppose, but if you plan to enter tournaments, you at least have to be affiliated with a human. I guess you don't have to work on a ranch, either, but if you don't... it'd be kind of hard to train monsters. The limit is five monsters per ranch, but it'd be nice if we kept it to one or two a person, just so our cast doesn't get too big... It wouldn't be much of a boss battle if we had fifty people going after Mu (not a cow!) at once.
On top of that, stat incorporation would be nice. I mean, we're not going to go for exact numbers because that would just be a pain, but every monster should have strengths and weaknesses in terms of stats, which are Power, Life, Speed, Accuracy, Defense, and Intelligence, for those that don't know. Typically, Suezo has high Intelligence and low Defense; Beaklon is the opposite. You don't have to raise you monster to be typical, though. (Heh... In MRA2 I had a Hare that had more Defense than a Brick Wall, but was about as fast as one, too... I called him 'Brick'.) That parenthetical statement reminds me - come on, name your monsters... I know they called them 'Suezo' and 'Mocchi' and all that in the anime, but really...
So, um, any objections? It would be nice if I didn't take complete control of this... The open-ended ROM types are more fun.
