Artemis quickly flew back to the castle and stepped through the hole. She was holding the execution notice in her hand. Noticing that both of her companions were dozing, she raised her voice and said, "Time to get up! I've found out where Tikawa's execution is supposed to be!"

Aeria opened her eyes at the sound of Artemis' voice and blinked at the Shadowing. "That's nice," she commented, stretching. "Mind enlightening us with when we attempt a rescue mission?" She kept her tone light, in an almost joking voice.

Artemis showed her the execution notice and said, "We have to find the Town Square before dawn."

Aldar opened his eyes and stood up. "Gee, that'll be hard to find." he said, sarcastically. He was grumpy from having been woken up. The Serephine walked towards the center of town, where the gallows stood omniously in the middle of the Square.

Artemis followed Aldar to the Square, not stopping to notice anything. "It is getting close to dawn...", she said as she landed beside Aldar.

"Meh." the Serephine muttered. He began to fly fast across the rooftops of the town until he reached the Town Square.

The Town Square was huge. It had been used for parties, carnivals, religious rituals, and, lately, executions. The gallows sttod omniously in the middle of it. Guards surrounded it. Eight guards surrounded Tikawa, who they were marching up the main road. The executioner already had his black mask on. Dawn was near, and so was death.

The guards pointed at the trio, and some sturng their bows, ready for combat. Others drew their swords, with grim expressions on their faces. They knew that two of the Dragonian's comrades had escaped, and it was rumored that they had taken down a Demi-Gorgon and a platoon of guards in the forest. They knew this would probably be their last day standing.

Aldar took cover on a rooftop as an arrow flew towards him, missing his ear by inches. He began chanting under his breath, meditating upon the Maelstrom of Elements.

"Let's see..." Aeria fitted two arrows at a time to the string, firing them all at once. Both arrows struck their target. More arrows, fired one after another, soon followed. Because of her wings, Aeria could sail easily out of the way of incoming arrows while shooting her own. "This'll take a while..." Murmering a spell, she smiled faintly as clouds began to gather.

Unknown to Aeria, the SC had forseen this ploy. They had positioned guards in alleyways around the square and on the rooftops. Two guards, both on the trio's rooftop, ran towards the Featherite, swords drawn, eyes blazing with fury. The guards below strung their arrows, while more guards leapt onto their rooftop. And with each blow, Tikawa stepped closer to his death.

Aldar looked down upon the Square, meeting one of Tikawa's guard's eyes. he looked scared. He couldn't have been more than twenty. Conscripted from a neighboring village, probably. The Serephine realized that maybe, just maybe, if they attacked with enough fury, the soilders would flee. He cast Maelstrom of Elements at Tikawa's guard, but carefully directed it around the young guard. 

The guard's name was Zamra. He had been born to a poor family in a neighboring village. He had worked hard, farming, fishing, trying to survive. Then, at age eighteen, he was whicked away by the Scarlet Crusade and underwent two years of grueling training. But nothing could have prepared him for seeing all his comrades fall. One was a friend from his village. The others were in the top twenties for combat rankings. He stood in his spot, frozen in fear.

(Um, she's kind of airborne right now...so how would guards attack her with swords? oO)(Oh well. I'll pretend she was close to the walls. XD)

Aeria was momentarily surprised but recovered quickly. "Too bad I have wings," she noted, soaring out of range. While firing arrows at the SCs with swords, she unleashed a Lightning Spirit upon the guards in the square at the same time. Bolts of electrical energy lanced down from the clouded sky, leaving a scent of burned ozone where they struck. Aeria purposely aimed at the cobblestones instead of the guards themselves. Although she hated the SC, she still couldn't kill in cold blood. Her purpose with the Lightning attack was to frighten, not to harm.

Artemis noticed that her friends were purposely missing the SC and found that she needed to go along with it. She decided to use the least two damaging attacks she had. "Death Augmentation.", she said. Her eyes obtained a redish glow and her presence became menacing. She noticed the guards step back but not run. "Bone Shackle.", she said, aiming it a random guard. He became instantly paralyzed. His comrades took notice and backed even further away from her.

Aeria pulled a few more arrows from her quiver and aimed at the remaining guards surrounding Tikawa. "Surrender yet?" she yelled down. "We have lots more where that came from!"

Artemis's eyes gleamed demonically. She stared straight at the remaining guards. "My advice to you would be to leave immediately... Before someone gets hurt.", she said and pointed her sword at the paralyzed guard. She smirked and pretended to mutter something. All the guards braced for some kind of attack but found that nothing was going to happen. "Next time, I won't pretend.", she added.

Tikawa had been drugged during that time. He was passed out. As the guards were running away, he shook himself awake, and stood up, tumbling back.

"... Did... I miss something...?"

Artemis grinned. "Yeah, we made a new friend,", she motioned to Aeria, "and we've just saved you from being hanged." She sheathed her sword and flew over to him to help him keep his balance.

"You missed my introduction, the utter freaking out of your guards, and our restraint in not killing them all." Aeria listed the events while shooting a few more arrows to encourage the fleeing SC guards. Smiling wryly at their panic, she chanced landing on a rooftop, ready to take off again if a soldier proved to be nearby. "I'm Aeria. You must be Tikawa. Nice to meet you."
