Ya know, I was sitting at school bored out of my mind, so I tried figuring out how the anatomy of a winged person works. I reached this conclusion: It is biologically impossible for a human to have properly functioning wings. For one thing, how are they joined to the body? A wing on a bird is equivelant to the arm and hand of a human. So for a human to gain wings and yet retain his/her arms, he/she wouldd have to evolve two pairs of arm sockets. Not gonna happen. Plus, even if all bones turn hollow, extra air sacs are added to the lungs, and large flight muscles developed in the wing area, I doubt a human could lift off. We're just too darn big and heavy. Besides, how do winged people get their clothes on? Cut holes in the cloth? oO
I'll stop ranting. *continues hovering* And please, Atma, don't lurk behind me like that. It's unnerving.

Should I...oh whatever. /o/

True. The typical flight anatomy of birds can only works in a particular size range. Once a "winged creature" reaches a certain size and mass, wings of any size become useless decor.
I believe that it's still possible for a large-sized winged creature with 6 appendages (counting the wings) to exist, albeit my notions are flawed.
It could be possible that, like flying machines, "winged anthros" could exist by utilizing lighter and stronger organic material for bones and muscle tissue (and something to address the issue of metabolisim)... plus a slightly (or heavily) modified wing structure (perhaps something similar to Dragons), and perhaps descreet "flight bladders" that can contain lighter-than-air gasses, and the gasses can be discharged through the palms of the hands or from the mouth (if the "winged anthro" happens to be a dragon or a lizard or a bird of some sort.)
Clothing might be tailored to fasten in the back around the wings and tail, and I assume "winged anthros" would prefer robes or tunics with capes...
... That's gotta be some painful reassembling...
*pets the cat*
And please... no more guns, bombs, knives, swords, bows, arrows, staves, or any form of weaponry. This is topic exists so there may be serenity in this madhouse. This topic was not meant to start a war...

True. I was looking at the problem in a slightly different angle...namely, what I've learned in Biology. XD
I suppose your beliefs are possible, but it'll take evolution a very long time to come up with winged people. And when I refer to winged people, I'm generally referring to bird-wings.
Interesting thought though, isn't it? So many people out there with winged characters, and I don't think many of them think about what would actually happen if those characters existed on Earth...

I'm a Transformation fanatic. I seem to like that morbid joy of seeing someone turn into a monster. *evil chuckle*
I guess if we let the mad scientists have their way with us, we could see the results right now. *grin*
... and I think if it's not here, it's out there... although it's nigh impossible to find a livable planet out there beyond our own, it's likely there are the "bird-winged" people of our fantasies.
Mandi-san. Thy logic shall be the death of you one day.
*looks at CGC* Yeah... I know... It's turning into a "let's talk about any subject while entertaining the cat" topic...

It kind of did, Simeon-sama. XD
*tosses a ball of yarn to CGC* Have fun with that. I have lots left over from when Grandma used to knit. Now she's in China.

Actually, planes fly via the way air gets pushed around the wings, so technically if, our bones were hollow and we had some pretty sturdy bones protruding from the shoulder blades, and if we got high enough and could jump really well, we may be able to say glide for great distances, especially if we had a tail that could act as a rudder, but a animal as clumsy as that would have been eaten in like two seconds flat

Thats why if I had wings, I'd carry a shotgun with me for protection. :DFureis wrote: Actually, planes fly via the way air gets pushed around the wings, so technically if, our bones were hollow and we had some pretty sturdy bones protruding from the shoulder blades, and if we got high enough and could jump really well, we may be able to say glide for great distances, especially if we had a tail that could act as a rudder, but a animal as clumsy as that would have been eaten in like two seconds flat

dood, if you were up in the air, you'd have terrible accuracy, especially with a shotgun, id reccomend a sniper or a FAMAS
