ROM 3: Shadows of Souls

"Marball must have taken a lot of damage by now..." *Josiah quickly looked through his remaining monsters.* "But I have to do something to reduce its mobility. Ah, go Yggdrasil!" *A giant tree monster appeared in the center of the arena.*

"So that's your plan? Giving me a stationary target?" *Bowen laughed.* "Marball use Rollin!"

"And here I was worried you'd see what I had planned. Yggdrasil, Multi-Fissure!" *The arena shook violently as the floor cracked and began to break apart* Josiah watched closely, glad he was on Midnight Wing instead of in the arena. Marball's attack was quickly stopped as it fell into one of the new crevaces. Without any arms or legs to pull itself free, it was stuck.* "Now, Rock Crusher!" *Yggdrasil dropped a massive rock on Marball, finally KOing it.*

"You are resourceful." *Bowen held up another card.* "I shouldn't have underestimated you. He cast a quick look at the damaged arena* "I think it's time we took this battle to the sky. Sylph!" *A green fairy like monster appeared, its translucent wings beating rapidly.* "Air Blades!" *Slyph hurled bolts of air at Yggdrassil which, being immobile, couldn't do anything to avoid them.*

"Yggdrasil, hang on! Try and hit that thing with Rock Crusher!" *Yggdrasil began hurling rocks up into the air but Slyph was too fast and easily evaded them all while continuing its attack. After several minutes Yggdrasil was finally KO'd.* "There wasn't anything I could do... Damn..."

"That's four to three. I'm still ahead." *Bowen called from atop Quetzacotl.*

*Josiah glared at Bowen and Sylph.* "Ok, that thing is going down. It's time for one of my trump cards."

"99 bottles of milk on the wall, 99 bottles of milk! Can't say beer 'cause there's minors here, 98 bottles of milk on the wall!"

"Someone get the duct tape!"

"Trump cards? Sounds interesting..."

"Go Rayzion!" *Josiah summoned one of his three strongest monsters. The six winged angel stared confidently at Bowen's Slyph.* "Holy Blades!"

"Wind Cutter!" *Slyph fired off a powerful blast of air but Rayzion shot through it unphased landed a solid hit.* "You were kidding about that being a trump card." *Bowen was looking very serious.* "But don't count Sylph out yet! Omni Tornado!" *A series of funnel clouds sprang up, tearing up the sky and nearly engulfing Midnight Wing and Quetzacotl. Then, without warning, the funnels began to close in around Rayzion.*

"I won't let you trap Rayzion!" *Josiah shouted over the gale force winds.* "Shine!" *Bowen cursed and madly rubbed his eyes after the blinding flash. Sylph had been blinded as well and had lost sight of Rayzion.* "Now!" *Josiah grinned as Rayzion appeared behind the green wind spirit.* "Wrath of God!!!" *The legendary attack struck the startled Sylph at point blank range, KOing it instantly, just as Bowen's vision cleared.*

"A tie... Very good..." *His earlier cockiness gone, Bowen was now completely serious.* "But don't think you're the only one with trump cards! Prepare to face the might of hell itself! Go Bellzefer!"

*Josiah gulped as the light seemed to vanish from the sky. Dark lightning crisscrossed the clouds as an ominous silence filled the air. Whatever monster was coming, it wasn't good.*

"Time to take matters into my own hands..." *Slaps Silver across the face*

"I'll be good..."

"Perfect timing, too... did you hear the thunder? That has to be Josiah's battle!"

"Sounds like it's coming from over there! Let's go!"

((We're near the end now. As for Hellion, we forced him to unmerge from Ben then left Ben with Mustadio and Amhal and killed Hellion.))

*Josiah looked around desperately, trying to spot Bowen's monster. Then a form began to materialize out of the darkness. Bellzefer was a demon, that was the easiest way to describe it. A full twelve feet tall, four long curving horns rose another few feet from its head. Two tattered wings sprouted from its back, flapping slowly. It's leathery skin was a ghoulish swirl of black and red and fire glowed in its eyes.*

*It took Josiah a moment to recover from his shock but, once he did, he began to laugh.* "A dark monster! You sent out a dark monster to fight Rayzion? I thought you were smarther than that Bowen."

"Laugh while you can." *Bowen's voice was cold.* "I assure you that I know what I'm doing."

Meanwhile, down below on the tower...

*A door burst open and Silver, Opal, Jeff, Shauni, David, and Yommikko poured out.*

"We found it!"

"Hey, there's Virgo!" *Opal pointed to the other end of the stands.*

"Holy fudge crackers!!!" *Silver's eyes locked onto Bellzefer.* "What is that thing?!?"

Back in the sky...

*Josiah was too focused on the battle to notice the arrival of his friends.* "Well, if you're so confident let's see what that mutated bat of yours can do! Rayzion, Holy Blades!"

"Dark Claws!" *Bellzefer lashed out with its razor sharp claws, blocking Rayzion's swords.* "Now, Fear of Darkness!" *A black must surrounded Rayzion.*

"Wrath of God!" *Rayzion remained motionless.* "Rayzion, use Wrath of God!" *Still nothing.* "Bowen! What did you do?!?"

"Can't you tell?" *Bowen laughed.* "Fear of the Darkness paralyzes a monster with fear. Your precious angel is too terrified to move! Now Bellzefer! Attack with Tainted Blood!"

*Josiah watched as Rayzion took the hit full on. This wasn't good. Rayzion had the type advantage but Bellzefer's strength was incredible.* "Rayzion, you have to break free! Try Devine Power!" *At first nothing happened but then Rayzion began to glow as the power up move took effect. Bowen cursed angrily as the mist surrounding Rayzion faded away.* "That's better! Now, Holy Blades!"

"It's not over yet!" *Bowen retorted angrily.* "Dark Claws!"

*For several minutes the two creatures shot through the air attacking, dodging, and parrying. Both were taking damage and it seemed to be about even but Josiah could tell that something was wrong. Rayzion was beginning to slow down. It seemed as if something was sapping its strength.* "Oh no... I bet that Tainted Blood attack had a poison effect... If this drags out it's not going to be good... I need to finish it now. Bowen, I'm going to end this with one attack!"

"Don't be a fool! If any monster can end this with one attack it's Bellzefer! Your angel is weak, I'll end this myself! Bellzeffer, Dark Purgatory!!!"

"Heaven's Retribution!!!" *The two monsters were right next to eachother when they attacked and the resulting explosen sent Midnight Wing and Quetzacotl tumbling through the air as Josiah and Bowen struggled to hang on.*

"Can anyone see?!?" *The group below strained their eyes, trying to see who had come out victorious.*

"It's... A double KO!"

"So, another tie..." *Josiah quickly scanned his remaining cards.* "And five monsters left to go... Ok, time for Death Glider!"

"Prism Dragon! Make him pay!!!"

"All right Tashi, let's see what's really going on up there..." *Silver mounted his bat-winged snake and flew into the air a bit to get a better view of the battle* "And at bat right now is Death Glider of Team Josiah, some other dragon thing pitching for team Bowen!" *He was doing his impersination of a baseball announcer... and it sounded really weird*

"Could you at LEAST do a different sport?"

"Ok... Rayzion passes the ball to Death Glider, he shoots and... he scores!"

"Oh great... Silver must be here..." *Josiah looked around until he spotted Silver and Tashi.*

"Can I shoot him?" *Bowen eyed Silver with annoyance.*

"No, focus on our battle." *Josiah paused then grinned wickedly.* "Although, if a stray attack happened to hit him by accident..."

*Oblivious to the conversation, Silver continued his announcer impersonation.*

*Prism Dragon was crystaline in appearance and shone with a multitude of colors. It appeared to be a rainbow type.* "Right... Accident..." *Bowen murmered.* "Prism Dragon, use Fireworks!" *Multicolored fireworks exploded across the sky. Death Glider had to move quickly to evade them but, oddly enough, most of the blasts ended up near Silver. But Josiah and Bowen were too busy to see what happened to him.*

"Negablast!" *Death Glider fired off a ball of shadow energy. Prism Dragon was hit but didn't seem to take much damage.* "Um, better try something stronger... Duel Breath!"

*This time Prism Dragon dodged at shot towards Death Glider.* "Brilliant Dash!" *Prism Dragon smashed into Death Glider, sending it spinning through the air the turned and hit it again.*

"It's got Death Glider totally out menuevered." *Josiah groaned, wishing he'd had more time to train Death Glider, his newest monster, before this battle.* "Try Shadow Fade!" *Death Glider backed away them simply vanished. Prism Dragon stopped, clearly confused, and began looking around but Bowen remained calm.* "That's better! You can't fight what you can't see! Death Glider, Dark Requiem!!!"

"Magic Mirror." *Bowen yawned. Death Glider's attack hit Prism Dragon full on but, as Josiah watched in horror, it ricocheted off and flew back in the direction it had come from. Death Glider screeched as it began visible again and began to fall before reverting to card form.* "You were saying?"

"Damn..." *Josiah looked uneasily at his cards. He didn't want to use Midnight Wing yet and he wasn't sure Mythril Dragon would be able to defeat Prism Dragon. That only left his two remaining trump cards. After a moment he settled on one.* "It can't fly but this just might work..." *He held up the card.* "I'm counting on you... Go Electriblast!!!"

"And Prism Dragon scores on the rebound... Hey, what the-" *Silver and Tashi dodged the attack* "Oh sure, attack innocent bystanders why dontcha?"

"More like annoying bystanders..."

"Snake ain't lyin'."

"Ok, then I guess it's time for another sport... I don't know crap about Basketball anyway. Electriblast jumps for t and... INTERCEPTION!"

*Electriblast landed on the damaged arena below as Josiah and Midnight Wing swooped down. Bowen watched cautiously.* "Electric Speed!" *Josiah opened with a stat boosting move.* "Now, Electric Heaven!"

"Magic Mirror!" *Prism Dragon quickly put up its shield and relfected the first few blasts of lightning. Several went towards Silver while the rest were sent towards Electriblast who, thanks to Electric Speed, was easily able to dodge them. As Josiah had hoped, the Magic Mirror faded before the attack was completed, allowing several free hits on Prism Dragon.* "Clever, but it's not enough! Heat Ray!"

*Electriblast jumped out of the way, narrowly avoiding the searing orange beam.* "Electric Heave!" *This time Bowen didn't even bother with Magic Mirror, instead he had Prism Dragon do it's best to dodge multide of lightning bolts.* "Now Electriblast, while's it's distracted, Electribomb!" *The ball of lightning hit Prism Dragon in the back and exploded, dealing significant damage and leaving the injured dragon unable to avoide the rest of the Electric Heaven attack. In a moment it was over.* "Nice job Electriblast!"

*But Bowen didn't wait for Josiah to stop cheering.* "Lava Gigas, Sweep Kick!" *A huge monster, easily twenty feet tall, appeared in the arena. It looked to be made out of molten stone with fire flaring from the cracks in its body. Extending one massive leg it spun around, leaving Electriblast no place to run. It took the hit with a sickening crunch and smashed into the wall before returning to its card.* "Now it's seven to six."

*Josiah gulped.* "It took out Electriblast in one hit... What power..."

*Tashi dodged the lightning bolts that came his way, but a few of them managed to hit Silver, though just barely* "Aw come on! Uh, guess he doesn't like Football, either... lesse here... Electriblast shoots down center field.. but the fiendish lava Goalie blocks the shot!"

"So, was that Hockey or Soccer?

"Honestly, I have no idea..."

"Only three monsters left to his four... I gotta be careful..." *Josiah was doing some quick thinking.* "I can still do this if I play it right. It's your turn Mythril Dragon!"

"Lava Gigas, knock that pest out of the sky! Meteor Rain!" *Fiery chunks of rock began to rain down from the sky. Josiah thought he heard one hit Silver but he wasn't really paying attention.*

"Supreme Guard and dodge them!" *Mythril Dragon increased its defense then began evasive manuevers. One of the meteors did collide with the dragon but he continued on without so much as flinching.* "Wind Tunnel!!!"

*Unfortunately, Lava Gigass's defense appeared to be just as good.* "Hah!" *Bowen taunted.* "Do you really think a little wind can hurt Lava Gigas? Inferno Ball!" *The burning giant hurled a ball of magma into the sky. Mytrhil Dragon tried to dodge but skill caught the edge of it, although it didn't appear to do any significant damage.*

"So, no wind attacks... Maybe, Invincible Charge!" *Mythril Dragon swooped down and surrounded itself in a barrier as it charged at Lava Gigas. There was a loud crack as the two collided but Mythril Dragon bounched off, looking a bit bedraggled. Shield or no shield, smashing into a barrier that solid had to do some damage.*

"Palm Strike!" *Mythril Dragon was struck by Lava Gigas's massive hand.*

"Agh, it has to have a weak point..." *He studied Lava Gigas's rock covered form. It pretty much had its own natural armor that covered its entire body. All except...* "Bingo! Mythril Dragon, use Invincible Chage again but aim at its eye!"

"What? No!!!" *Bowen shouted as Mytrhil Dragon smashed into Lava Gigas's open eye. The giant teetered back and forth for a moment then fell back, shaking the entire castle as it landed.*

*Unfortunately, Myhtril Dragon wasn't looking very good either.* "That eye must have been harder than it looked." *Josiah muttered as he watched his dragon struggle to stay in the air.* "If I keep him out he'll just get nailed by whatever Bowen sends out next. Mythril Dragon, return."

"A tie, even if your monster was still standing." *Bowen remarked.* "Do you really think your two remaining monsters can stand against my three?"

"Heh," *Josiah grinned through gritted teeth,* "looks like we're about to find out."

Neo was just watching the battle and was impressed by both trainers. But his attention wasn't all on the battle. Something was gnawing at him. Something that felt needed to be done... (preparing for 4 :) )

((Just remember that four takes place a year or two after three. Hmm... Just to make sure everyone remembers, quick recap of what we've planned for four.
Takes place a year or two after three. Starts with everyone meeting at a monster battling tournament. Not too long after the tournament we go to the continent where Neo came from to search for the cure to a strange disease and that's where we meet Simeon. And I think that's about it. Feel free to correct me if I forgot something. I'll be starting the ROM 4 thread once 3 ends.))

"Since you're losing I'll be nice and summon my monster first." *Bowen raised a card.* "Go Polar Pheonix!" *A large bird appeared, like a Pheonix but made of ice instead of fire.*

"It didn't matter what monster you summoned. I already knew who I was going to use." *Josiah closed his eyes as the half pendant around his neck began to glow.* "Virgo... Please don't fail me now..."

*Back in the stands Virgo vanished and reappered next to Josiah on Midnight Wing.* "I've been watching." *She smiled.* "You're doing great."

"I am losing..."

"Losing? You have me, and I'm easily worth two of his monsters."

"You don't have to fight." *Josiah looked into her eyes, completely serious.* "I'll understand. I won't make you."

"Thanks... But I don't mind. You've fought for me, it's only fair that I should fight for you. Besides, do you think I'm seriously just going to sit around and watch you defeat Bowen? It's about time you let me in on the action.* "Besides, it'll be a good chance to test out that new power we were talking about."

"Ok. I'm counting on you."

"Enough talk!" *Bowen interrupted.* "Is that you monster? That girl doesn't stand a chance against Polar Pheonix! Your defeat is assured! Shades of Winter!" *Polar Pheonix sent a freezing blast towards Midnight Wing.*

"Now, go!" *Virgo jumped off Midnight Wing as it flew away from the attack.*

"Holy Fudge Crackers!"

"Virgo!" *Shauni gasped.* "What is she doing?!?"

*Suddenly two wings made or pure golden light sprouted from Virgo's back. After a moment of awkward struggle she shot back up to face Polar Pheonix. This was the power she had mentioned. It was an ability she'd gained as part of her Nova form but one that she and Josiah had decided to keep secret until it was needed.*

"All right Virgo!" *Josiah cheered.* "Now, use Mecha Overdrive! Let's show Bowen our power!!!"

*Virgo gave Josiah a quick nod and smile then attacked.*

"Wings of Ice!"

*There was an explosion as the two met but, when the light faded, Virgo was alone.*

"One hit..." *Bowen was wide eyed.* "You actually defeated my monster in one hit..." *Without warning he threw back his head and laughed.* "Yes... Yes! This is it! All those years of solitude, locked away in this castle... This is the battle I'm spent my entire life waiting for!!!"

"Yes!" *Josiah's eyes were glowing with excitement.* "Summon your last monster! Let's make this the final round!"

"Succubus!" *Bowen summoned his last monster, a vampire like woman with long black wings.* "Attack that girl, you know what to do!"

"Yes master." *Succubus flew towards Virgo.*

"Don't go losing on me Virgo!" *Josiah called as she tossed him a grin then turned to her new opponent.* "Now Bowen, it's just you and me. Midnight Wing go!"

"Quezacotl, let's crush him!" *The green thunderbird sped to meet Midnight Wing. The final round had begun.*

((Phew... Almost done. Sorry to hijack the RP for so long guys. My next post will finish the monster battle and then we can all move on to the final boss fight.))
