ugh, time to justify off campus housing to my father, even though it's significantly cheaper than paying for room and board on campus, especially because the food here sucks.

Hi! Living on campus, though it can be convenient, tends to be a bit of a rip-off in terms of costs vs. what you get, at least from the places I've seen.

It's been alternating between light rain and really heavy rain today. Didn't make my drive back from synagogue fun, espeically since a power line or tree or something went down and blocked a road, requiring a ridiculous 40+ minutes detour.

Better watch out for the Origami Killer there, Josiah.

Aloha! I'm very glad that Forum Wars is turning out nicely. Also, people need to learn to tip their pizza delivery drivers better. I mean, seriously. Please, if you do not tip pizza men or ladies, tell me why, so that I may better understand the logic.

I avoid ordering pizza specifically to avoid paying tips, usually pickup it up myself instead. Because I am a college student and money.

But I assume that people who don't tip don't understand that people who can get tips can work for less than minimum... though, is that the case for pizza delivery? I know waiters and waitresses can get less than minimum because they earn tips. How exactly does it work for you guys though? Do you get paid at least minimum plus tips? Also, do you have to pay for your own gas? I'm sure people not understanding how it works is a major factor. But I guess it could also be that they don't feel like you did enough for them. Never mind the fact that you had to drive all the way to their house for Christ's sake, of course. But you don't bring them drinks and then ask if they'd like any appetizers and bring them an extra spoon because the four year old dropped it and then refill their drinks and explain the specials and what kind of soups they have for the day and offer desert and coffee and so on, so forth. So I mean, I guess that's why. I don't know; I know you tip pizza delivery guys. Hence why I don't order pizza.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Ha.

I've gotten a pizza every Saturday for the past three semesters and I havent tipped my delivery guy more than 4 times. Because I am a poor college student and I could use that few dollars to do laundry/buy real food.

Also because I'm a borderline sociopath.

Then don't order pizza.

No, I'm serious. Go pick it up or eat something else. Nobody's forcing you to order pizza every Saturday.

As for how it works, here it is. I make minimum wage while I'm inside the store. The second I leave the store to deliver something, I make about three dollars less. And, yes, I do have to pay for my own gas, minus $1.15 per delivery, which comes nowhere close to paying for gas but is supposed to pay for gas and the wear and tear on the vehicle.

As far as not doing anything special, well, it is true that we don't refill your drinks, but other than that, there's very little we do that a waiter or waitress doesn't do, and the waiter doesn't expend fuel getting to your table, and there's much less chance that they'll be robbed when they get there.

Yeah, robberies happen sometimes. We are literally risking our lives every day so you can get pizza. So please, tip.

Not to mention, I've found that being a generous tipper is one of the smallest things you can do that makes the biggest difference in your life.

I'm sure this all comes across as quite self-serving, but it really is something I feel quite passionately about, and will continue to preach after I am no longer in this line of work.

Hey.

We're always good to tip delivery people. I say delivery people because when we do order out, it's rarely for pizza. We have this lovely place that has delicious subs and pasta dishes (mmm chicken parm) for like 9 bucks and it's pretty much good for three meals. And that's saying a lot for me; I have a huge appetite.

But, yeah, I rarely order out because I'm also still on the meal plan, so I try to milk that as much as possible. It's really just when I'm hanging out in Collegetown (yes, that is what the area of Ithaca near Cornell is called) with my upperclassmen friends. I'm also living off campus next year in Haus, which, according to Wikipedia, is "a home for members of the Cornell Big Red Marching Band's trumpet section since 1997."

The fact that we're on Wikipedia makes me impossibly happy. Because none of the other instrument houses are on Wikipedia. TAKE THAT, OTHER INSTRUMENTS.

But, yeah, Haus is just a house in Collegetown with 9 residents and I'm going to live there with 8 fellow trumpet players and it's going to be wonderful. And I will have to learn how to cook because ordering takeout repeatedly is not something that is affordable because poor college student. But we have a washing machine and dryer, so at least there's no having to worry about paying for that!
May the Triforce be with you.

Hi! If I order food, I always go pick it up myself. Often the places I order from don't deliver anyway, but even if they do I'd rather get it myself since I don't have to pay tips and I know exactly when I'll get my food. But yeah, if I actually did get delivery, I'd tip. I always give at least 15% to waiters, taxi drivers, and such, unless the service was really bad.

Well, I just finished cleaning out my apartment to get ready for Passover (starts tomorrow night)...except that I'll be gone for most of the holiday. But hey, at least I'll have a clean apartment when I get back. I was hoping to hold my own seder this year and have some of my UF friends over to learn about the holiday. Unfortunately, most of them are really busy with projects and papers and stuff. To the point where, for the number of people who were definitely coming, it just wasn't worth the time and expense to host a seder, as much as I love doing it. Fortunately, a family from synagogue invited me to theirs, so I've got a place to go. Unfortunately, I don't know them very well so I have no idea if it'll be nice or really awkward. I was also told quite specifically not to bring any food (apparently they're super strict about keeping Kosher), which takes some of the fun out of things.

This is just a PSA, but if you ever want to rule your very own country and build a civilization that will stand the test of time, then for a limited time only, Civ V Gold edition is only $12.49 on gamelfy.com. It is astoundingly fun and I would love to play with some people.

In other news, I had a talk to my parents about off campus living, and the good news is, they didn't say no... I'm still waiting for them to say yes though.

Aloha! Also, sorry to go all psycho about tips. I just feel very strongly about it.

Hi

I have a torrented copy, so IDK if it will play multiplayer with legit copies. And I wouldn't want to.

I must confess to never having had anything to do with the Wicked property. I haven't read the books, seen the play, or even listened to the music. Is it really that good? Maybe I'll check it out.
It is, it is one of the best musicals I have seen. EVER.
Wicked is better than Oz
I agree!

Also, I need to get online more over the weekend.

I get Thursday to Monday off this week, so leaning on the resent trend, I won't see you guys much this week.

Nothing else to report!
