Stuff I've Watched Recently
Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
S was the best of the Sailor Moon seasons I've seen so far (though some of the monsters got plain ridiculous). That said, I still gave it a 7 (out of 10) on My Anime List. That means that it's not a bad show, but I'm not especially into it either. In general, shows with the "monster of the week" format tend to get dull after a while (though there are some exceptions) and that's what Sailor Moon is most of the time. I also wish the characters grew and developed a bit more over the course of the series. I mean, after fighting so many monsters and saving the world so many times, couldn't Usagi become a bit less clutzy and a bit more competent? I could go on a bit about how dumb many of the villians are. Or why no one recognizes the girls when they're transformed (and, alternately, how come everyone who sees the girls transform automatically knows who they are even if they never met before)... But yeah. It's not bad, and I can see how it influenced a lot of later series, but it just doesn't stack up to a lot of newer stuff I've seen.

Hold that thought till you see Usagi in Super Stars.
Oh yeah! I've seen the following horror movies in the past month:
The Omen (awesome)
Drag Me To Hell
The Mist
The Rite (not that scary)
Scream (not that scary; at all...)
Paranormal Activity

I don't usually watch Japanese live action stuff, but someone I know recommended Yuusha Yoshihiko so I started it last night. And wow, I haven't laughed that hard in ages (especially impressive seeing as I recently watched the entirety of Big Bang Theory and have been listening to a bunch of Abbott & Costello radio shows). Billed as the "low budget action adventure" it's essentially a spoof of JRPGs and Japanese fantasy stories in general. The main character, Yoshihiko, kinda sorta proves himself to be the legendary yuusha (hero) and is sent on an epic quest to save the land from a deadly plague. Along the way he battles monsters (many taken straight out of Dragon Quest), gathers a party of traveling companions (most of whom are just waiting for a good opportunity to kill him), and is sent on an even greater quest by a god that everyone except him can see. I highly recommend it, especially for Silver and Colly.

If I knew a good source for J-Dramas, I'd check it out.
So this season seemed like it'd be busy, but it really isn't for me yet.
Watching: Ika Musume S2
Chihayafuru
Looking forward to:
Phi Brain
I was going to watch Lupin III, but I can't find enough info on it.

Don't forget that we'll also be watching Mirai Nikki, that new Hidamari Sketch, and possibly Persona 4 at some point. Also, DRRR is going to be running for most of the season... and Doctor Who is doing a great job of interrupting the normal anime viewing schedule. We may not be loading up on new weekly anime, but it's still a busy season.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
I got Yuusha Yoshihiko off a site called d-addicts. The video files are raws, but they've got a forum thread where you can download sub-title files for all the episodes. As long as the subtitle file has the same name as the video file and is saved in the same place, VLC automatically adds it in.
I'll have to check out the Mirai Nikki anime at some point since I've been hooked on the manga for a while now. Other than that, I'm still mainly watching older stuff. I've still got Gokudo, Milky Holmes, Raxephon, and two seasons of Sailor Moon waiting to be watched and after that I'll probably start going through some of the shows they have on Netflix.
When you say Lupin III, are you talking about the old series or are they doing a new one?

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Thanks for the link.
As for Lupin, a new one that was announced for this season, but we don't know when it's airing.
It also was instantly licensed, and I have no clue what the licensers will do with it right now.
With this upcoming season, everyone is switching how they encode anime. I heavily suggest to switch from VLC to CCCPJosiah wrote:VLC

Actually, I watch most stuff in Windows Media Player. VLC is my fallback program when something (like certain mkv files) won't play right in MP. Though, I've had the occasional mkv that doesn't play right in VLC either. I really hate the mkv format... Anyway, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Finished Season 1 of Gundam 00. It was amazing. I think I already liked it more than Gundam Wing, but it's not my favorite, though. Wing and Evangelion got me into mecha anime, so they will remain my favorite for a while. Anywho, time to watch Season 2!
To Silver, I see you've only watched up to episode 21. I'd understand how you got that reaction, because most of the stuff in the beginning did dissapoint me, as well. I wouldn't say the cast is that forgettable. Setsuna's character develops a lot and eventually he becomes a likeable character. The pacing was rather slow, but as it gets more exciting that changes. I didn't really pay much attention to the politics, but they get a little less important later on starting with episode 22. And yeah, "Celestial Being" is a lame name, but it grew on me over time. I'd recommend to you to keep watching it, despite not being a mecha fan. It does get more exciting, trust me.
On the side note, I'm now getting into Kdramas. I'm watching a few with the family, now, but there's one I really like that I couldn't pronounce to save my life.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Ah, yes. I had been following it as it aired on the Sci-Fi channel a couple years ago. But when the last episodes were airing... I fell asleep. I made it through the entire series up to that point, but fell asleep for the final episodes... so then I figured, shouldn't be to hard to track down subs for this on some crappy anime stream site. And so I did just that, and set out to watch the last few episodes on another day - the middle of the day, mind you, believe it was a Saturday - and... I fell asleep five minutes in...
The issue isn't that I don't think I could last through the last few episodes though, not really. It's just that... well, it's been two years since I watched it. I barely remember what was going on at the point I stopped... In other words, I'd have to rewatch a few preceding episodes as well, and those were the episodes that caused me to subconsciously link "Gundam 00" to "Nap Time".

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
I really should watch 00 sometime. Though, now that I'm thinking of it, I've already got copies of Victory Gundam and Turn A Gundam to watch, not to mention the completely unrelated Raxephon, so I think I'm good with mecha shows for a while.

Re: Stuff I've Watched Recently
Okay. I'm done with watching Gundam 00. Rather than giving a detailed explanation, I'll post a list: (This is all my opinion)
The Bad:
- Slow pacing
- Too much focus on politics
- Not enough screentime for most likeable characters (Patrick, Feldt, and Graham/Mr. Bushido)
- Too many robots are blowing up/too much action
- Tieria gets too much screentime. (And is an overrated character.)
- Hard to interpret the plot due to the politics.
- Setsuna, Saji, Lockon, and Allelujah seem to be the only four characters you can relate to.
The Good:
- Great Mobile Suit designs.
- Setsuna is an excellent portrayal of Heero from Gundam Wing.
- Excellent story, despite the difficulty interpreting it.
- Sad scenes are executed greatly.
- Good portrayal of war.
- Terrific irony.
- Amazing visuals.
- Voice acting is amazing. (dub)
- The introduction of a HD version of Gundam RX-78.
- A good amount of fanservice (me, I don't enjoy this one bit... I'm sure a lot of people who watch this show do, though.)
Again, 00 is claimed to be by fans to be a carbon-copy of Wing. In conclusion, I'd say Wing beats 00. Not because of nostalgia, but I looked at S2 of 00 rather dull in comparison to S1. No complaints about Wing at all, other then I wish there wasn't a huge yaoi fanbase.
I should really begin finishing G Gundam or Gundam SEED now...

Isn't it awesome, Doodle? Beavis and Butthead rock! hehehehehehehehe...
My review for G Gundam, an amazing show:
The Bad:
Some parts of the show should've been taken more seriously.
Certain MS designs looked weird.
Foreign country characters all had American accents, which I found weird.
The Good:
Compelling story.
Most original storyline (outside the war genre.)
A great combination of martial arts, drama, comedy, and mecha.
A memorable list of characters (particularly Domon)
Exciting plot twists.
Sad scenes are executed greatly.
Some of the "weird" MS designs are actually funny and stereotypical.
Lots of morals depicted through various characters.
The soundtrack can be defined in one word: Classic.
The overall atmosphere pumps you up.
What more could I say? This definitely beats 00, in my opinion. I didn't find anything particularly wrong with G Gundam, though my friend and I agreed some certain scenes in the show could've been taken more seriously. Overall, this show was beyond outstanding.
In case anybody is wondering... My to-watch list (in order): Gundam SEED, One Piece, Gundam 08th MS Team, Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist, Slayers.

So, Rinne no Lagrange. Awesome anime so far. 6 episodes in and I'm still loving it.
It's on Hulu right now, new episodes come out every Sunday.
