Bonus Week: The Guild
Bonus Week: The Guild
Continuing the bonus week tradition of posting stuff that doesn't qualify for regular club weeks, I present The Guild.
The Guild is an online video series following the misadventures of The Knights of Good, a very dedicated MMORPG guild. But, unlike the MMO comics we've had in the past, The Guild is less about the game and more about the guild members' lives in the real world. Guild members include Vork (the nearly broke guild leader), Clara (the world's worst mom), Blades (a highschool student with issues), Tink (a girl with a serious attitude problem), Zaboo (stalker and mama's boy), and Codex (a very socially awkward young woman who is nevertheless the sanest one of the bunch). When Codex finds herself in a jam, she calls the first real life meeting of the guild members to try and work things out and from then on things are, for better or worse, never quite the same. Note that The Guild is definately a PG-13. Most swear words are bleeped out, but there's a lot of adult jokes and situations (particularily in Season 3).
Since this isn't a comic, the 50 strip rule doesn't apply. Instead, watch at least the first season (seasons are 10 - 12 episodes long, with the occasional bonus video; episodes range from 5 - 8 minutes each). There's a drop down menu on the main page you can use to change seasons (click the little arrow to the right of the video where is says Season 4, change to Season 1, then click the first video on the list).
My favorites are the last episode of Season 1 (boss battle!) and most of Season 3 (rival guild battle!). The music videos in Seasons 3 and 4 are also rather amusing.

Great series! I got forced to watch this series by a friend, and I loved it. One of my favorites from the people who make it is "Do You Wanna Date My Avatar," a music video.

Started watching it about a week ago, and I'm already up to what they have so far online. Do You Wanna Date My Avatar is definitely awesome, but I also like Game On, probably because I'm a Bollywood fan and it makes fun of a lot of aspects of Bollywood stuff :P
Very funny show, though. Mega awesome.
(And, is Bladezz, not Blades :P )

Re: Bonus Week: The Guild
Oh wow, this series. Colly introduced me to it back when only season one was out... and I actually haven't watched beyond that yet. So this is a good opportunity to do so, huh?
Anyway, I definitely loved season one, it's got a great nerd style of humor. It's well-made and pokes fun at just about every MMO gamer stereotype, but it still has an affectionate parody kind of treatment.
Also Saber, did Codex look familiar to you? She should, 'cause she's Penny in Dr. Horrible.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Yup! I got into The Guild because of Commentary! The Musical! (AKA the commentary for Dr. Horrible) because they mention The Guild in it, and my friend said how he watches it, so I decided to.Silver wrote:Also Saber, did Codex look familiar to you? She should, 'cause she's Penny in Dr. Horrible.

I got into it because of Dr. Horrible as well. As Silver said, they do a good job of poking fun at the gaming stereotypes without getting insulting. Still, you gotta hope that mom's like Clara don't actually exist...

I'm sure there are moms like that, or else that kinda stereotype wouldn't exist, also, Zaboo reminds me of Tyler Williams in his escapades to get Codex to like him.

Seriously, he's stalking her. And Vork seems to always be low onn money. What's up with that? Face-saving fake relationship! Woo!

Vork doesn't have any money because he doesn't have a job. He's basically living off his dead grandfather's social security checks.

"If you choose not to accompany us, we must move on without you. And you'll be dead to me as a human being. And, were I in a situation where I would have to chose between saving you or a dog who I have never met before from drowning, that I would do my best to drown you myself in order to save the strange, unfamiliar dog who I would not even care to keep after rescuing but would, afterward, place in a non-abusive foster home. Good day!"
Why would anyone rather shave themselves with a rusty cheese grater after a gem like that? I wish I could talk to Vork.
