Exactly. Every race gets stereotyped sometimes for comic effect. White Americans included (American TV does it all the time, as does Japanese). Heck, I'm Jewish and was homeschooled until college, both of which are subject to lots of stereotypes. Most of the time, I laugh right along with them. If you can't learn to laugh at yourself, you've got a problem. There's a big difference between comic stereotyping and offense racial slurs. One that you, WS, seem to be missing. As with the whole thing between you and Silver a while back, you take things way too seriously and see insults where there aren't any. Occasionally stereotypes go too far and truely are insulting (there was this one American character in an episode of the anime Demon Detective Mind-Eater Neuro...), but that's generally pretty rare.

Personally, I haven't seen the show you're complaining about, but I seriously doubt that any serious insults to Asians are intended. And, even if that was the case (which I don't believe it is), there's no reason to compare Disney to 4Kids just because The Disney Channel has one show you don't like.

And, before you start ranting about it, Power Rangers has nothing to do with the subject at hand. Disney did not create Power Rangers, they're merely continuing a popular seies that they obtained the rights to a while back. There's certainly no reason to demonize them even though you prefer the show that PR was loosely based on.

I really don't think you can go saying that Disney hates Asians. That's not a fair statement at all. Everyone gets made fun of.

There are general sterotypes, whether you like it or not. Actually, I appriciate Suite Life for going against them.

Like Asians being nerdy. It's a general stereotype. Like dumb blondes or popular blondes, or that girls have to be interested in dresses and makeup and be all girly and ickh.

Suite Life has their comic-relief (though the entire show is comedy, I can't exactly call her comic relief...) idiotic person as an Asian instead of a blonde, like most stereotypes. They had Max (I think that was her name) in the early shows, a tomboy.

They have stupid characters, and they need to cast them as SOMEONE. Just because they happen to cast them as Asians doesn't make them Asian-haters. I bet that the creators don't just sit there going "lol azns suck lets make a show and then have an idiot in it and make them azn rofl"

Like I said, you wouldn't understand at all if you're not Asian. These stereotypes can actually be hurtful since they use the same stereotype over and over. I actually take offence by Disney's sterotypes, along with many other Asian Disney haters. If you were in my shoes, you'd realize how these sterotypes can be hurtful.

I'm in the frikkin' marching band. That's like... geek central, according to the media. Am I a geek? Yes. Is everyone in the band? No. Heck, we have a guy who's basically a jock in the band, but he's not a stuck-up jerk like movies and books and crap would lead you to believe.

And, on the note that I'm a geek, does that mean I have dorkwad glasses and tuck in my shirt all "nerdy-like". No. Do the geeks in Drake and Josh as well as tons of others shows offend me because they're so stereotypically geeky? No.

Dumb blondes. Now THAT one is used a lot. Heck, we tell dumb blonde jokes IN FRONT of my blonde friends, and they don't care. It's just another stupid stereotype. That character from Sonny With A Chance... whatever her name is. Stuck up, typical dumb blonde character.

I don't understand because I'm not Asian? Okay. So, I went and asked a bunch of my Asian friends today if they felt that Disney insulted them because they were Asian. The responses were akin to a very surprised "no, why would I be?" My friend even was like "I love London Tipton, why would I think that's offensive toward Asians?"

Case and point.

(now, I wrote this before school (except the bit about talking to my Asian friends), but didn't finish because I had to go to school. Other people have made posts... and, well, yeah... I forget where I was going iwth that...)

I didn't make this thread to start an argument at all... It seems like some people don't understand that SOME of these stereotypes can be hurtful to people, and I happen to be one of them. I even have friends who are hurt by some of the media's other stereotypes by Disney. Me and a bunch of members of club even found it. Disney executes it WAY too often. Everyone else just had to come in and tell me "you shouldn't be offended, WS" or "get used to it, already" or "stop whining, we all deal with it"... Wow, people are incredibly sensitive.

Not everybody takes media stereotypes lightly, and I happen to be one of those people. So please understand that, for once. Thank you.

Don't say that. We're not arguing against you BECAUSE we've all been long-time members, we're arguing against you because that's what we believe to be right. We just happen to be long-time members. Just making sure you understand that.

There's a time to be sensitive, and there's a time when you're just taking it to darn seriously, and, yeah, you need to suck it up. I stubbed my toe. Ow. Suck it up. I broke my leg. Ow. Alright, that's really bad. Go ahead and cry (though I cried for about a minute when I broke my leg, if even that...not that that really matters right now).

I just don't think you should target Disney in particular. If you look at ANYTHING, you can find "hurtful" stereotypes. The media can't afford to please everyone. What, should we paint all actors green so we can't tell what race they are so we don't offend anyone?

I would like a request to lock this topic because this is being taken way too seriously. I mean, so Disney casted Brenda Song as the ditsy London. They could have just as easily casted someone else. I'm Mexican. Doesn't that mean I get mad at Mexican stereotypes? Of course not, I make Mexican jokes myself. So basically you really need to get over yourself.

I dont think this was originally meant to get this bad, I think it was suposta be just for fun, right? but somehow it got turned into a blazing 'flame war' and 'stereotype war' I agree with Gar kinda, I do think it should atleast be calmed down, but not locked, unless it gets worse, then lock away! and like Gar was saying, I'm blond (or atleast use to be) but I loved blond jokes, and even made up a few, I never took it the wrong way, but when WS made this, I dont think she was even implying about any show in particular, just the channel them selves and how they compared in shows, not about them >.>

Once again, WS, you're looking for a conspiracy where there isn't one. Us long time members disagree often enough. We're all merely stating our own opinions on the subject. None of us are actually trying to agree with each other, we just all happen to hold the exact same view on the issue.

We all understand that some stereotpyes can be insulting. We also understand that the vast majority of stereotypes aren't unless you're either ridiculously sensitive, or looking for something to complain about. The fact that you're the only one here who finds the show in question insulting doesn't mean that we're all ganging up against you. It means that most people (Asian or not) just don't find it insulting. You can believe me that if a lot of Asians had problems with the show, Disney would have changed it by now (big companies these days, especially family friendly ones, are extremely careful about not insulting any particular people group).

And, now that everyone has said their piece, I'm going to go ahead and lock this before it changes from a debate into an arguement.

((FYI though, NG, this is in no way a flame war. There's nothing wrong with calmly and logically disagreeing with someone in a respectful manner. If we were all swearing and calling each other names, that would be a flame war. Fortunately, those don't happen on these forums.))
