The Video Game Rant Thread
You may post here if there is something very irritating you come across while playing your current video game. Such as "Stupid boss, it's too hard..." or "My opponent got entirely too lucky..."
This could be for gamers on this forum who are fed up with some stuff within the game, yeah... Just to make you feel better by expressing your troubles.

Re: The "I AM PISSED OFF AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
Warhammer: Online. Every single developer plays characters on the Order side. Literally. Destruction has no developer support. Just last month one of our developers took pity on the class I use as a main (mostly because "supposedly" the class he plays and the one I play are mirrors) and he just got back with info on what he's thought so far a few days ago. Along with this "holy crap you guys were right" sort of post on the game forums, he also listed a bunch of our abilities that are getting buffs because the dev's never realized how utterly underpowered our side is...so I guess the moral of the story is that if you try to make an online game, try having the developers play both sides and not just mass buff one.

Rania - Female; Type: Water, Grass; Abilities: Torrent, Overgrow; Attacks: Tackle, Curse, Razor Leaf, Bubble W/L = 5/0
Karst - Male; Type: Normal; Abilities: Keen Eye, Guts; Attacks: Tail Whip, Scratch, Defense Curl W/L = 2/0Re: The "I AM MAD AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
Not sure what you think you need a mod's permission for, unless you want this stickied (which isn't happening). But I did rename the thread due to language (no swear words please, we try to keep the forums mostly PG).

In Wii Sports Resort, Level 19 in Swordplay is pretty easy... But right when you get to level 20 (for me that is) it seems uberly hard. The last black samurai you fight is Matt, he's almost impossible to hit... The game seems to glitch a lot with the Wii Motion Plus.

I know this is just a bit off topic, but I'm a bit upset with my Poke'mon Sliver game. Right now I'm battling RED on the game and it just so happens when I was about to beat him the game turned off. Its not the games fault, but it still frustrated me seeing as I had been playing it for two hours trying to work up to the point where i could beat him.

I AM MAD At Haze FOR BEING UTTER AND ABSOLUTE CRAP EVEN THOUGH IT CAME FROM AN AWESOME DEVELOPER. WHY FREE RADICAL, WHYYYYYYYY?!?!?!?

Re: The "I AM MAD AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
I'm basically pretty disappointed at practically every "free" MMORPG there is nowadays. It may be "free" to make an account and play, but it's practically impossible to enjoy the game without practically paying off your soul.
Some people who get fed up with paid games make free counterparts in the form of "private servers", which are, for all I understand, illegal. However even these "free" counterparts often provide donation prizes. (This doesn't only apply for private servers but also for various privately owned games, forums, etc.) These donation prizes usually benefit the donators SO MUCH that the entire game is thrown off balance and it's impossible to get anywhere without donating.
What's happened to the word "free" these days?

Re: The "I AM MAD AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
You've gotta keep in mind that running a MMO isn't free. MMOs are massive and complex games, and therefor tend to require very high development costs (lots of employees, lots of time, expensive software, etc). Your average game company isn't rich. If they don't make their money back on a project, there's a good chance they'll go out of business. And, if they don't charge for the game itself or for subscriptions, they have to make their money somewhere. As for private servers, even if someone didn't make the game, the costs of running a MMO can still be pretty high. For one, you need web servers and you need to keep them up and running. The servers and related software cost money and require a decent amount of electricity to keep going 24/7 (which also requires money). Not to mention that everything online (not just MMOs but web pages, e-mails, etc) takes bandwidth. The more complex something is and the more people are using it, the more bandwidth it needs and bandwith isn't free either. Even a mildly popular MMO is pretty much guarenteed to have high bandwidth costs every month.
Taking all that into account, a completely free MMO just isn't possible unless it's plastered with advertisements (and even then it'd be iffy).

Re: The "I AM MAD AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
The games I had in mind when I made my last post are actually quite wealthy. Even if that weren't the case, I'm more bothered by the methods they use to gain money. I understand that everything has costs and that it makes no sense to be "completely" free, but some of the things they are offering often throws the entire game off balance and makes gameplay a lot less enjoyable for the majority of the game's population.
A few examples I had in mind I might have clarified:
1) A Ragnarok Online private server whose administrator offered players insane things for quite a lot of money, and then ended up using the money for drugs
2) North America's Nexon is most popular for its "free" MMORPG game Maplestory in which all the best players end up buying loads from their "Cash Shop". One item in particular, which gave them 2x EXP, ruined the game economy and made it near impossible to train without them. Many people left because of this. A few years later, they decide to implement this popular "2x EXP" idea in their newer MMORPG I play called Mabinogi. Most of the players on Mabinogi were those who had left Maplestory because of this "2x EXP" item, and therefore many players are debating over this and complaints are being made. This is what originally frustrated me.
3) Many games, not just Nexon, include EXP boosting items that they deliver to the masses similar to how drugs are dealt with. For example, they provide an initial EXP item that already costs quite a bit of money. Then it takes just a little amount to increase that EXP item's duration for, say, a few more minutes. People might not realize how much they're spending.
These games usually target younger players who don't even earn their own salary so would more likely be willing to part with a few dollars for this and that. I guess these methods are necessary to keep the game going; just some recent updates have irked me a little more than their usual methods, which resulted in my rant. Yay. :v

Re: The "I AM MAD AT MY VIDEO GAME" Thread
There's a fine balance that goes into choosing what in game items should be sold and for how much, a lot of games do get that wrong. Most developers want to keep things kind of fair for non-paying customers, but they also need the items to be cool enough that people want to spend money on them. I can't comment on the specific games you mentioned since I haven't played them myself.
As for "kids" game that use micro-transactions, quite a lot of them sell prepaid cards in stores such as Best Buy, so parents can get kids $20 card which kids can use to buy things in game without needing a real credit card.

This thread is about how angry you are at your game, not how happy.Cheezdude wrote:I used to play Toontown. I paid for the game, but I enjoyed it quite alot.

Haha, well that was KIND of on-topic, since we were talking about MMORPGs and whatnot...
I never wanted to try toontown. Honestly, the advertisements creeped me out.
I'm not really mad at any game at the moment... just, I get bored of games really fast, and that's frustrating. My friends are wondering where I am and I'm just never in the mood. Guhhh... xD
