furutsu basuketo: a game played by young children (in preschool and elementary school mostly). Everyone is given one of several words (i.e. apple, orange, banana, and melon) and sit in chairs arranged in a big circle. There is one less chair than players. The chairless player stands in the center and calls two of the words, at which point those people must all get up and race for a new chair while the center person tries to steal a chair for himself. Calling fruits basket means everyone has to get a new chair.
When I was teaching English, I often made it more interesting by going around outside the circle and periodically stealing a chair or two. Chairless people had to play rock paper scissors with the loser being eliminated.
