I think a chicken is a female.. I mean a male chicken is a rooster. Just like geese.. well males are ganders....

Wait, does it work like that or are they all chickens? ... OR ARE THEY FISH!?

Yes, the males are all roosters. Just like cows are only female and bulls are their masculine counterpart.
So there was a handsome rooster across the street.

Perhaps it wasn't a physical bird but someone who was cowardly. They crossed the road becasue of peer pressure. Perhaps it was a task to prove their bravery.

Maybe it wasn't anything real at all. Maybe "the chicken" crossing "the road" is a metaphor that is so deep that we can't comprehend it.
