Actually Silk is one of my favourite brands, it definitely tastes the best in my opinion.Silver wrote:Melvin used to drink chocolate "Silk", which I guess is a brand of Soy Milk... but seriously? Why call it "Silk"? It sounds like you're drinking someone's clothes. ...Then we met Turkey Hill Chocolate Milk and just haven't been able to buy it. It's not the same.

Maybe it's called Silk because it is as smooth and rich as the fabric...

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
I don't think it's that milk is exactly unhealthy. It contains everything you nee to grow up strong and healthy...if you're a baby cow. If you're not a cow, it's not really the best mix for you. There's nothing particularily bad about it though.
Silk? I never liked that one much. Eden Soy was always my favorite soy milk by far, back when I drank soy milk anyway. These days it's just Rice Dream. Which isn't as good as Eden Soy, but did show up in an episode of Yakitate Japan!, which has to count for something.

Yes, we're not cows, but we are animals, and we do have many biological similarities. The blend is a little off, but that's only if we're only drinking milk. Because humans need a variation of foods from all food groups including dairy, meat and blahblahblah, no food is going to be the right blend.
I don't work on a farm, but I don't believe baby cows eat grass straight from birth, just based off the observation that most animals (or mammals and birds I guess) don't eat anything solid immediately.
They have proven that human milk is better for babies, but that's because they pretty much just eat that and Gerber's fake applesauce or whatever that stuff is.
But milk is one of the best foods for calcium. Especially because it contains what is needed for the digestion of said calcium.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Poik's totally right there. As a general rule of thumb, mammals lactate and the baby mammals drink said milk. I grew up beside a farm, so yes, cows do drink the milk, but only for a while. But for all the herbivores, I think the big reason why the lactating isn't a constant thing is because plants are by far the highest energy producing of all nutritional substances known. Carnivores are known to laze around a lot and only actually go into highly energetic modes when hunting, mating, etc. If you (or any mammal for that matter) grew up without a high energy source, you wouldn't be able to be so active. Humans are lucky, being omnivores and all, we can get the nutrition from meats [giving us amino acids and other "essential" nutrients (aka: stuff we cannot make on our own)] and still get high doses of energy from plants.
I think I got a bit off topic there, so tl;dr: Milk is good for a while, but you need other stuff later on to survive.

... Does this mean we should be drinking human breast milk our entire lives?Josiah wrote:I don't think it's that milk is exactly unhealthy. Anyway, I've never tried Soy Milk. Not because I'm not willing to try it, jsut because I have what's in the house and Mum and Dad don't like soy milk so we've never had any around.
I do drink milk though. all the time. I love the stuff. I don;t drink nearly as much milk as water (I drink heaps of that) but I pretty much have a glass of milk every day. Can't get enough of it^^
Especially plain or Strawberry flavoured. I'm a weird one. I don't really like chocolate milk or Icecream, but I lurve chocolate.
Our family's fairly big so we but milk in 3L bottles. That's a lot of milk and I can;t let it go bad right?
My excuse and I'm sticking to it.
... I want some milk now...

New topic! Going off the last news post on PV, why do toasters go up to high when any setting above medium will badly burn pretty much anything you put in it?
Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
My mom keeps all the bread in the freezer, so instead of thawing it like we probably should, we just turn the toaster up higher than normal. I doubt that's the main idea behind the overly high settings, but it does have it's uses!Josiah wrote:New topic! Honestly, I'm not sure about toast but the highest setting is what I need for my waffles. Or my bagels.
Maybe I just have a wimpy toaster.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
We typically use our microwave instead of the toaster. I personally don't like my bread/bagels/etc. all crispy. I think my sister doesn't care, and at least one of my parents doesn't like it either. In addition, the microwave is faster. So we just use that.
I'm sorta in college right now, though, so I'm stuck with a microwave whether I like it or not.

I use a toaster oven instead of a regular toaster, but it still has settings for toast. I personally use the higher settings to toast my bagels a dark brown, and it works quite well. It would probably burn regular straight-up toast though...

Personally, I was shocked and alarmed to find that my sister enjoys eating charcoal. If you turn the toaster up all the way and put a bagel in there, that's what you get, and Fred actually likes it. Put some butter on that black crispy mess and went to town.
So to answer your question, Josiah, they have such high powers because some people don't have enough carbon in their diet.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Sometimes the heat settings on toasters are dodgy and if you put it at a lowe setting it won't cook the bread at all, so you have to put them on higher settings.. then on other days the lowest setting will still burn it.
... or maybe that's just my toasters...
But I agree with silver. Some people just like their bread mroe toasted than others.

More toasted, sure. But I wonder how many people really like charcoal... All the toasters I've used can toast a frozen bagel at around medium or less. Go above that, your burn the bagel. Regular toast (frozen or not) gets friend at anything more than a little above light. Maybe I'm just used to strong toasters. And then there's that on toaster my parents have, which will at least burn part of anything you put in it no matter what the setting.

I don't even like my marshmellows burnt. Give it to us, raw and wriggling.
... Actually, that visual kind of scares me.
I don't really like toast either. But I'm strange, I'm a soggy cereal kinda guy. Though bread is good with sandwiches a little brown.
But blackened fish is another question... Oh wait, that's with pepper.
