The Official Rant Thread
Re: The Official Rant Thread
I had something like that happen to me once, I did a victory lap in my high school, and my little group had been letting mew people in every year, but during the last year since I was the only original member left, the younger ones took over. Out with the old and in with the new right?

I am DISGUSTED. Kick a Ginger Day? What kind of idiotic person would even think of kicking someone because of something that South Park said? Our school did. It was violent today. So many people got hurt, and so many people hurt others. Grade 8 and 9 kids marched into the younger kids' pod and beat the red-heads, my younger cousin included. They didn't just kick them; they really hurt them, and alot of kids lost teeth and have bad bruises. Almost 100 kids got suspended, and 50 more were gone because they were hurt. I saw one of the nicest people I know bruised beyond belief. It took a while to get everything settled down, and classes were canceled.
It's racist, and it's disgusting.

This is exactly why I don't see South Park's "Blame Canada" song too funny, there's always someone who takes things too seriously.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
XD People are so stupid.
Speaking of stupid people, I'm going to rant today about whoever wrote the curriculum for my friggin' health class. Ok, so the first thing we did was learn about "love", in what they call the "ladder of love". As in, there are ten "steps" and it's implied that they're all vital for humanity. "Self love" - seems a little conceited, doesn't it? "Love for primary caregiver (mother)" - what if your mom's dead? "Love for secondary caregiver (father)" - So I'm stuck there because my dad died? "Love for other relative" - what if you don't have any? And what if you're adopted? "Love for first childhood friend" - what if you're a shut-in and only ever see your family? "Love for the same gender" - what if you're gay? "Love for someone of the same gender but older (hero)" - So Luci Christian isn't allowed to be my hero? "Love for the opposite gender" - again, what if you're gay? "Love for children" - is that encouraging pedophilia? And I don't remember the last one. But it's absolutely ridiculous and it shouldn't be legal for them to quiz us on something so subjective as "love".
And what relevance does it have to health, anyway? Am I going to die if I don't "love" people according to their standards? I'm really liking this quote... If a Health Class makes you want to die, doesn't that defeat the purpose?
I already gave you my anti-romance rants. I think my feelings on this whole fiasco should be obvious. I don't know how I'm going to survive an entire marking period of this. Maybe I should keep a log. Like... "Hell class, day 9. My Brain cell count has dropped below 23. Still, I've managed to retain more than the teacher started with. I fear that, at any moment, he'll reveal himself as a zombie and feast on my yet-undisintegrated brain..."
Ooh, that's a good idea! If I keep a log about how stupid I feel I'm becoming, it'll make it look like I'm taking notes AND help me keep my sanity. Thanks, rant thread! Something productive actually came out of this one!

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Speaking of health, I kinda hate it right now. It's a re-run of 7th grade only worse.
Yeah, 7th grade was the sex ed. year. We're learning about the male and female reproductive systems.
At the beginning of the unit we watched the most absurd video. It was about two kids (girl and guy) as they go through puberty, but there's this weird voice narrating and every once in a while it goes into some weird computer generated picture of the reproductive systems. The voice is all "at this stage in life girls are emotionally unstable". Then, the girl stands up and proclaims "I'm getting a tatoo". "Boys are prone to fighting" The boy charges and beats this kid up. "The male vocal chords grow longer, and the body doesn't know how to keep up." The boy is singing, and his voice cracks. "The boy will then feel uncomfortable and not confident enough to speak."
It was kidnda really stupid.
Ug. Quiz tomorrow. We're getting a picture of the systems and we have to label them. I HATE it!
This unit is TERRIBLE. The good thing is that there are only two obnoxious kids, and they're only semi-obnoxious. Everyone else when called upon usually kinda trails off, or mumbles something like "It's too awkward to continue...."
May the Triforce be with you.

Wow, you two definitely have ridiculous health classes. My first health class was grade 5 - because apparently everyone hits puberty at 10 now...

I haven't hit puberty at 13... and I was taught about it in health in Grade 4.
Re: The Official Rant Thread
This all brings to mind Wizard's First Rule (the actual rule, not the book the rule is from), "People are stupid."
If you want to get technical, the full rule is, "People are stupid. They can be made to believe any lie because they want to believe it, or they're afraid to believe it." But the first part by itself just does such a good job of summing up my feelings on both the things discussed.
On the "kick a ginger issue": While you could probably put some blame on the guys who make South Park, and quite a lot of blame on the kids (for taking the stupid thing literally), I'd say quite a lot of blame goes on the parents of those kids for not monitering what their kids are watching and not explaining how wrong something like that is.
On the health class issue: The state of public school curriculums, especially in regards to some issues, leaves me very worried about about future generations. I'm glad I was homeschooled.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
Ok, about the kick a ginger thing. There are some really stupid kids at my school, and I didn't hear anything about people kicking gingers. Apparenty, they are either more mature then I thought, or they don't like/watch South Park.
And about the Heath Science thing. Well, you kind of have to learn about it some way, and your parents are probably to squemish to discuse it, and I'm sure that the teachers are as uncomfortable about this as you are. But really, do they have to be so graphic and exagurate some things.
On a related note, I'm sick and tired of not being able to open up a book in my Health Science class without looking at a picture of diseased/disfigured/disgusting genitalia, both male and female. Ugh. I mean, I know it's because I might have to deal with those things when I'm in the medical field, but it's squicky non-the-less. And the strange thing is...I'm getting used to it. Also, they can't show basic anatomy of the body without the model being naked. Now that's just unnecessary.
Now, the Heath Science class you probably have is just P.E. (my school calls it Wellness. Only freshmen take it.) when we got to the Sex. Ed. part, we just discussed what happens in puburty for about the day or two and went to the next chapter. The Heath Science class I'm talking about is HOSA. Compaired with some of the stuff we have to look up (for the love of god, do not look at Retinoblastoma), the stuff with the genitalia is pretty tame. Most of it. *shudders*

I love that series, but I never got around to reading the last two books after a friend spoiled the endingJosiah wrote:This all brings to mind Wizard's First Rule (the actual rule, not the book the rule is from), "People are stupid."
Also, if you want a disgusting disease, look up ebola, or as one of my friends calls it, "the exploding zombie disease"...it doesn't really have anything to do with exploding or zombies, but the way we heard about it made it sound similar somehow.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
Ah yes, we have "sex ed" junior year in my school. That class was absolutely miserable for the full two days I spent there. We started right off with the STDs. Needless to say, I expressed my discontent in a reasonable, articulate manner, something like: O___O DO NOT WANT.
...And then I wrote a reasonable, articulate, AP English-quality essay about why the concept of taking a bunch of teenagers, sticking them in the same room, and giving them an excuse to be perverts is absolutely ridiculous.
And then I asked my mommy to write me a note so I didn't have to go.
And then I never went back. School systems are terrified of parents, because they're the ones that get to vote on the budget.
