Yay. That is why I use my first amendment right to not say indivisible in the pledge. It's divided all right. Although the fact that the division is peaceful was a feat. Now it's taken for granted.
Another point for McCain. With Obama in office, the democrats would be in control of the senate and the executive. Even distribution is best for all people.

If the US becomes as socialist as some people want it, it's definately going to ruin the "American way of life".

I my opinion, the government is supposed to adminster things that individual people can't take care of on their own, assure law and order, and things like that. They don't need to have a hand in everything. I'd rather pay less in taxes and handle my own health care, retirement, etc. Which is one reason I don't like all of Obama's plans to increase government influence and powers. And, like Poik mentioned, Obama's flip flopped too much and proven himself untrustworthy (for example, promising to use only government financing for his campaign, like McCain, and then breaking his word when he decided he could get more money the other way). Add in his close relationships with some very anti US people, and I just don't trust him in the least.

To top that off, in my opinion, Biden's voting record sucks. So that's two strikes against the Democratic ticket. McCain certainly doesn't seem perfect, but he seems ok, which is a huge improvement over "rather worrying". Palin... Admitedly, I don't know a ton about her but I doubt she's anywhere near as bad as she's been made out to be (honestly, the Democrates must really hate republican women with all the attacks they've been making, probably since they're supposed to be the big "women's rights" party and all) and she actually does have more executive experience than Obama so who knows?

Personally, I think this is gonna be a mess no matter who wins. The way I see it, if Obama wins, Democrates will control everything and pass a lot of bills that I'm against and may very well screw up the country and economy more than it already is. And, if McCain wins, the democrats will throw a fit about it for the next couple years (driving everyone crazy) and the Democratic congress will probably try to block everything he proposes out of spite, which will just bog everything down.

Speaking of the mess this election is: take a peek at the future, http://www.cracked.com/blog/an-intervie ... year-2012/
It makes fun of both sides, don't worry.

Ugh, and do not get me started on the Electoral College.
Yeah, we talked about Washington a TON last year.
If I weren't lazy, I'd dig up my Social Studies folder and find the piece of paper in which he warned about the dangers of political parties.

I'm not even going to defend Obama. I really don't like him. I don't like either canidate...at all.
But, I guess that's really how it always is. Can't say I know from experience, though. Barely payed any attention to the previous election, and even less to the one before that (cuz I was 6 years old. :P)
Really, I think we're in trouble either way. But that's just me.

Oh, does anyone have any objection to me saying just how much I think the whole US electoral system suck? (I'm not speaking of the parties, just the system)

Wow, the poll's close now. Just like in the actual election :-)

Shadowman, I don't mind at all. I absolutely hate how things are done here.

Well, you put that rather blunt, Dice, but if things keep going the way they are, that just may be true.

It's a shame that the people who would truly do well as president probably will never even make it to the ballot. There's probably many more suitable people in the country than these two guys (Well, three guys in Simsmagic's case)

That reminds me of a movie I saw once (can't remember the name). The real president goes into a coma, and they find a man that looks exactly like him to pose as the president. He actually begins to do better than the real president.

I know that movie, Siranae. We watched it in English class a few years ago. Miss Hults is a genius and managed to "educationally" tie it in to some historical/political book we were reading... I dunno, like, The Scarlet Letter? The Crucible? Something like that.

I'm pretty sure it's called "Dave". And I'm pretty sure the real/fictional President died... while having an affair. So the whole thing was a commentary about how corrupt politicians are... yeah, I'm pretty sure it was The Crucible. I'm lookin' at you, McCarthy. Then again, if he died while having an affair, it may have been The Scarlet Letter...

But yeah. The electoral college is a pretty stupid concept, there's no denying it. It's... kind of an insult to American intelligence. I swear we're not as dumb as they make us out to be on TV... And not as fat, either! <--Said while voraciously eating Halloween candy
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

It's sort of like the joke:
"So a blonde was driving her car down the road when she sees another blonde out in a field rowing a boat. She pulls over and gets out of her car to yell: 'You know, it's blondes like you who give blondes a bad name. If I could swim, I'd go out there and smack you.'"
Or at least it would be if a politician said that America isn't as dumb as it looks on TV.

No disagreements here.

Wait a few days (or weeks) because counting those votes is gonna be long...

Now about the electoral system!

Please...PLEASE...why doesn't the US use ONE method to vote instead of say, 10?!?
Is it so hard to make 200 million papers with "Choose one: *circle* Obama *circle* McCain"?!?

Also I'm rather confuse about the whole Great Elector thing, are they actual people or just points? If they can vote opposite of what the people vote doesn't it completely remove the democratic aspect of an election?

A least up there we try to be simple, each "state" (I forgot the actual english name for them) is worth 1 seat at the congress and said "states" are worth roughly the same population, so say Quebec and Ontario have more states than New-Brunswick. Heck I heard we were going to go for even simpler by going for an entirely popular vote: if 40% of the country vote for you then you get 40% of the seats.

It's official. Obama won and America is royaly screwed. Brace yourselves for 9/11 part II once Obama pulls out.

Shadowman, you're thinking of the Electoral Collage. Each state get's as many people as it's 2 senators and however many representatives. That's why, say, Ohio and Florida is more important than Alaska and Kansas. The founding fathers did it that way so the smaller states wouldn't lose their power over the bigger states. And, I know your system in Canada works fine, but down in America, we have, to say the least, a lot more people than you do.

Also, I have a suspicion that Luquos isn't the only forgener who voted, so whoever it is, fess up.

Well, maybe I was too harsh before. I mean, when it comes to some other countries out there, our government is okay. At least we can have a say and vote, while some citizens of other countries can't.

Yeah, it was Dave. Now I remember. Thanks Silver.

Gar, shut up. Again.
The chances of another attack on US soil is slim, given that any terrorist leader that is not braindead would attack when you do not expect one. I may be wrong but that would be logical.

Personally you'd be more screwed if Obama doesn't help the economy, or give it the means to later help itself. (One mandate can be awfully short to bring back a country from a recession)
