I've all so seen "dame" translated as "no"... Like, Darth Vader's "NOOOO!" Would have been a "DAMEEEE!" And then "dame desu" is kind of an "it's no use" type of thing...
enpitsu - pencil
shukudai - homework
tegumi - letter (As in, "I sent my pen pal a letter", not "A is the first letter of the alphabet." ...Honestly, do people even do the 'pen pal' thing anymore?)

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Pen pals are a bit obsolete with e-mail and everything...
Um anyway, like Silver pointed out, dame can be used in several different ways, making the word itself a little hard to completely define in English. For example, while it could be used by someone screaming `No!!!` I`m pretty sure it can`t be used as a more general purpose no (like if you`re answering a question). I most often hear it used as a sort of mix between stop and no. Although I hear dame desu from time to time too.
