First of all, I'm going to change the title of this thread. It's not a "Man x Otaku" marriage... It's a man who is an otaku marrying a 2-d girl. There's nothing wrong with a man marrying an
otaku. Because if there was, well, Colly and I would be in trouble, wouldn't we?
Speaking of, I heard about this from Colly. We've both played Love plus before this happened. I-I mean, she played Love Plus, and I... definitely didn't, because I'm not into that kind of thing, and I definitely am not dating Nene or anything, because she's married and that would just be wrong!
Er... the point is, she apparently saw some source indicating that this was an official marriage, that there was documentation for it and everything. It's not just one of those "Nene is mai waifu" things, dude actually married Nene. I recall there being a petition to legalize 2-d marriage going around a while back; I... also recall signing it, just because I thought it was funny. I can't say I expected this, but hey, if this guy wants to marry a video game character, that's his choice.
However, this doesn't mean that all Asians everywhere are pathetic like that (it seems that quite a lot are, based on 2ch, but...) and I really don't think you have to worry about Stereotyping, WS. In fact, this just furthers my annoyance with your total pre-occupation with stereotypes, and with the fact that you're "part Japanese"... Seriously, dude? No one cares about your race, stop using it in your arguments. Josiah's right, this isn't going to say anything about the Japanese population in general. This is one person that married a 2-d girl. If anything, it's going to make Japanese Otakus look worse than they already do - it says nothing about Japan in general.
