Whispers on the Wind
Whispers on the Wind

Prolog Stories around the fire
Shadows danced across the darkened forest floor, as wind whispered through the trees. Four hunters sat around a roaring fire as they shared stories of their adventures.
Zurich finished up his tale about his misfortune hunting for Mambo chicks in the warm summer months.
?Go ahead Rembrandt my friend, it is your turn?
Zurich sat down and the oldest of the four hunters stood.
Rembrant rose high and tall above his resting hunting party. He stood dignified above them all. His age had given him the wisdom and experience that almost oozed out of him. He was almost mysterious and grand, like a towering monument built millennia ago. His posture was that of a proud and noble hunter.
He turned and walked towards the fire they had lit. He gazed into its flames as if entranced by it swirling and weaving.
?Rembrandt my friend, will you pleasure use with a story of your adventures?
He turned and looked at his hunting party. He took a breath then sighed as he then looked at the stars.
?Rembrandt??
He looked down from the sky and again at his party.
?I have a story for you?
He walked up to the hunters and sat beside Zurich.
He pointed towards the stars.
?I?ll tell you the story of the Light?
The hunters looked at him strangely
?What story would you have of the stars old man!?
The youngest hunter stood. His eyes suggested hatred towards Rembrandt
?Silence your mouth pup!? yelled Zurich.
Rembrandt placed a hand in front of Zurich as he stood
?Charm yourself my friend. So who might you be young pup?? he asked the boy.
?I am no pup granddad. I am Gill. You might be old but that does not make you wise?
Zurich was ready to burst but Rembrandt kept his hand extended to stop him.
He spoke softly again to the boy
?I knew one like you once. In fact he is in my story"
Gill sat down "let use hear this story and be done with it"
Rembrandt continued "His name was Dinovo-Ra"
Zurich interrupted "what? THE Dinovo-Ra! You knew the great Dinovo-Ra?"
Rembrandt smiled "No, I knew a simple young man, new to the world around him. He was not too much different to this young hunter that sits before me. He was a farmer..."

Chapter One: Night of Knives
"Many years ago, the great leader of this land was one Feskel-Ra. He had 10 sons and 12 daughters to his 5 wives. His youngest son was Dinovo-Ra??
Rembrandt was interrupted by Gill who had lent forward and was frowning
?I already know all this, it?s a stupid old legend thats been told for decades, you?re a fool?
Rembrandt lent forward to meet Gill?s gave
?There are many twists to a plot pup, not all legends are one way, after all, legends are about people, and people are not so straight forward?
Gill pulled away from him, and closed his eyes as he crossed his arms
?Fine?. tell your story?
Zurich sat upright and smiled, his face delivered the silent message of ?that told you?.
Rembrandt returned to his former position by the fire, and started his story again
?Thought there father was royalty, he had bequeathed that his children be treated as common men until the day he instructed otherwise, he wanted his children to grow up honest, true and most importantly, to know what there people wanted and needed if they ever where to become king or queen. It was a tradition that had been held for 100s of years, and it had served the land well, making may fair kings and queens.
However, this was not held true by all of them. Feskel-Ra?s last wife, Corinna-Mull-Ra, was the daughter of a nobleman named Falk-Mull. He had deep-seated resent for the way the King ruled the land, he had played true to the king, but his loyalty was a fursard. He funded many ill attempts at rebellion, but the King?s fair ways always won threw
After only a year of false marriage, Falk-Hull and Corinna-Mull-Ra had him assassinated, as well as his other wives and their children. Thus the 12th Day of harvest became known as ?The Night of Knives?. All but Dinovo-Ra and his twin sister Bella-Ra escaped this mindless slorter, hidden by loyal villagers on the farm they both lived.?
Gill?s eyes remained closed throughout this part of Rembrandts story, but a snigger had formed on his face
?We know this old man, what is your point, were is this going??
Rembrandt stood up, Zurich followed this action.
Gill opened his eyes and looked at them both with disgust
Rembrandt pointed to Gill
?If you don?t not wish to hear my story, then go to sleep, or at least let your mouth rest from all its flapping?
Gill?s fists tightened, but then he looked over at Zurich who was twice his size
?Fine?I wont interrupt your stupid rendition of a story I have heard a thousand times?
Rembrandt smiled softly, while Zurich glared
They both sat down again
The forth hunter who had so far been silent spoke up, her name was Shaunicoco and she too, like Gill, was a green horn on her first hunting trip.
?Rembrandt??
He looked over to her
?Yes child??
?I did not know that Bella-Ra was Dinovo-Ra?s twin, in fact, I to have heard this story many times, and they all said she was killed to??
She then realized she might sound disrespectful and backtracked
?That?s just to say that your story is different?.?
Rembrandt looked at her for a long moment and began to laugh heartily
?Ha, child, don?t feel you have to pay homage to me, I am put a man after all?
She smiled at him with an orquared grin
?Heh?its just that even your adventures are talk of themselves, you are a legend?
He stopped laughing and composed himself, looking at her, as if into her soul, making her feel a little uncomfortable
?I am no legend, I am but a man who has done many things, like the great Dinovo-Ra, maybe one day I might be called great, but while I?m alive, and time has not mystified the truth, there might be some who would disagree with you?
He stood up and headed towards the fire again
?Let me continue my story, and then you might understand better Shaunicoco?

Chapter Two: Cherryblossum
Rembrandt threw another log on the roaring fire, the huge plum of ash rose into the air as if the fire thanked him.
He sat down softly next to Shaunicoco and placed an hand on her shoulder.
Shaunicoco blushed quite clearly, Rembrandt was quite the celebratly amung the hunting class, and here he was, touching her shoulder...
She felt herself shiver with excitment as she closed her eyes and almost shrank into herself with embracment
Rembrandt glanced at the blushing mass of shyness he had his hand on and gave the smallest grin as he looked away
"You know child, theres no need to blush"
At his comment a shy giggle escaped her lips, which she tryed despoartly to reclaim, but it was to late.
Rembrandt removed his arm and placed it on his lap.
"You remind me so much of my daughter you know..."
Rembrandts face suddenly pulled into a sad gaze, his eyes went clear as he played images of his daughter threw his mind, over his sight
Shaunicoco watched him nervusly as he appered to space out
"...... Sir Rembrandt?" she asked after a few moments
Rembrants eyes retured to there deep blue as he was pulled back into relaity
"O...I'm sorry child, I was thinking of my daughter..."
"What...whats happned?" she asked, unsure if she where allowed to ask
Rembrandt closed his eyes and sighed, his head slumped.
He opened his eyes after a monet and looked at his hands...the colour from his face drained.
the other three hunters looked on at the sighted, the once monalithic hero they thought he was was seamingly crumbering before there eyes
He clenahed his fists and closed his eyes again.
"I...I lost her"
The three other hunters where silent, stairng at him for a few moments as the information sank in
"My lord...."
Rembrandt shuck his head
"I am half way threw a different story, its rude of me to stop. Let me contuie"
"Only if your sure old friend" added Zurich
"I'm fine...."
He leanded back, looking at the stars for reasurance and guidence
"I'll contuie with what happned to Dinovo-Ra and Bella-Ra after they went into hidding. They where taken by the villagers to a cabin a few miles into the vast forest that surrounded the capital. They where left in the care of a wood cutter named Rembra-Soun. As fo the Captial, The Mull family sezed control, with Corinna-Mull-Ra proclaimed queen and her father duke....and her son the next heir...."
Sitting on a mat, under a cherry tree, two small children ate a picnic together.
The cherry blossom petals floated down in a sudden spring breeze, swirling and dancing in the wind.
The children held out there hands and raised them to the sky, hoping for a petal to fall into theirs.
The old wood cutter sighed, he'd be cutting down the trees after spring, the children wont like that.
His expression was blank, lacking a spark of life. He'd taken care of these orphans for gone 6 years now, he'd even named them, raising them as his own...but they weren't his own, and in another 3 years...they would be taken.
He sighed and contuied chopping his wood. His eyes were dry... he was unable to cry.
Mikado and Asuka, HIS two children. Mikado means 'emperor' and Asuka means 'Tomorrow Beautiful'. The two names he had given the 6 year old Dinovo and Bella to hid who they where so that they could be raised safely.
They where now both 12, when they became 15 they would be reclaimed by the villagers that brought them to him...
Probably best not to think about it till it happens.
Mikado caught a cherry Blossom petal in his hands
"ha! I caught one! See Asukie! I caught one!"
"Hay! No fair! I want one..."
"You can have mine Asukie"
He placed it softly in her hand
Asuka blushed then smiled at her brother
"Thank you Mika"
Mikado patted her on the head
"No problem sis, I gotta look out for my little sister"
Asuka's smiled pulled into a frown
"Where twins stupid"
Mikado smiled a cheeky grin
"Yea, but your still little"
Asuka stood up and began to poke at Asuka's arm
"Don't call me little! Girls are shorter than boys!"
"Little! Little!" he mocked, it was affectionate and childish
"Daddy! Mikado is teasing me!"
The wood cutter looked up from his work, a warm smile crossed his face
"Mika, stop teasing your sister"
Mikado sighed "yes sir..."
These are my children.
