ROM 4: New Horizons

Metamorph had been doing some thinking of his own. What troubbled him the most was the fact that both Neo and Shauni had dark aruas about them. Shauni's was more noticable then Neos due to the fact that Neos only flared up when he was fustrated or angrey. Shauni's was more noticable most of the time. "What has been going on the past 1.5 years? Neos darkness came shortly after Bowen's defeat. Shauni's came sometime after the battle as well. What has happened to both of them. I hate to see either this way. There has to be an explination here. The shot time I spent with Shauni, she was a very nice and carring person. Now look at her. Driven to win at almost all costs and darkness surrounding her. How can 2 people change soo fast?", Metalmorph said to himself in his mind. He was troubbled and he didn't like it and not knowing any answers.

((Gah, another delay. Oh well, there's only one more battle after this one. But Shauni, don't count on winning.))

"You think you can stop us with one attack? Over confidence never won anything Shauni! Virgo, counter with Mecha Overdrive!"

"You're the only fool here! Even a legendary attack can't stand up the powers given me by Hellfire! Balance, finish it!" *Balance fired at the same time Virgo unleased her attack. As soon as the two powerful waves of energy connected a brilliant flash hid the entire field from view.*

"Virgo," *Josiah took advantage of the temporary blindness to send a telepathic message to Virgo without Shauni seeing,* "Balance's attack will break through yours soon. Fly up and get behind Balance, quickly! When you're clear use Angel's Restoration."

*Hasting to follow Josiah's advice, Virgo took off not a moment too soon. She could feel the energy from Balance's attack surging beneath her only seconds later. And, while see too was having trouble seeing, she could sense the monster itself nearby. Soon she was in position* "Done." *She responsed to Josiah as let the healing magic flow over her.*

"Good." *Josiah, and everyone else, was still operating blind but the light was beginning to fade. Still, there was time for a last move.* "Use Heavenly Spear!" *The attack connected, knocking a startled Balance to the ground once more.*

"What?!?" *Shauni was clearly startled when the first thing she saw was her own monster crashing into the floor.*

"Keep using Heavenly Spear!" *Josiah yelled.* "Don't give it a chance to get up again!"

Shauni's face drained of colour and her eyes widened as she saw Balance's back facing a horde of spears coming towards it.
Without thinking she flung herself into the arena. He wings burst into a wingspan of meters and she flew..infront of Virgo's attack screaming "Balance!!"
She spears struck her threw her chest and her wings. Her body looked as if it could have been shredded to ribbons.

Shauni's face twisted into pain and she began to descend towards the ground as Virgo suddenly stopped her attack in absolute shock.
Balance quickly caught Shauni before she hit the floor.
It looked at in in absolute horror, seeming questing why she would do that.

"I-I guess...I forfeit huh?" she said with weak grin as blood escaped her wounds...and she blacked out.

Balance flew her high into the air and towards the V.I.P area of the arena

"shauni!" Yomikko could be heard screaming as she received the cooling body of shauni.
"You fool...you dam fool!" she scream as she and Jeff took her in the nearest infirmary.

Josiah looked on, stunned...he'd never have expected shauni to block Virgo's attack of balance...especially now...

She quickly ran down the stairway to see if she was ok.

Virgo was panicking...she might have killed Shauni...

The guardian awoke on the ground in pain... he felt that he was stabbed a hundred times and life was draining from him...

"Guadian Father! Guardain Father! Wake up!" Mahri pleaded, "You were screaming so much... please... wake up..."

"Little one... Mahri..." The guardian moaned, then he noticed the little girl was clutching the steel figurine of the girl with anger in her heart he made that morning.

"The cold girl... Guardian Father..."

"I know... I felt it, too, little Mahri." Like the father spirit he was, he sat up and comforted the child with a father's embrace, "We're safe here..."

The little girl had buried her face into the guardian's robe and was crying and whispering a prayer as her guardian looked at the Archangel-- The sacred blade was unsheathed and it's glow was fading...

The crowds initial screams had now dulled to a dull murmur as they discussed what had just happened. it wasn't unheard of a trainer jumping in front of an attack for a monster...but it was normally rookies or beginners...never in a battle were both monsters where off the scale in skill.

Meanwhile Shauni had been placed in an infirmary. Her wounds were being treaded by several doctors. Luckily for shauni none of the spears had punctured any organs...she was going to be ok, but it was going to take a while before she would recover.
There was however one problem...one of the spears had struck her spinal cord...if they weren't careful on how they removed it she may never walk again.

Yomikko hovered over worriedly with Jeff. they had both been kicked out by the doctors.

All they could hear was Shauni murmuring in her state of shock, over the drugs they had used to calm her thrashing body.

"Guardian....I see you....I'm sorry....Mah-"
She then passed out.

Neo, Metalmoprh, and Tusekasa followd Shauni into the infirmary to see what was happening. He was soon kicked out with the others. Neo was quite shocked to have seen Shauni do such a stunt before. He'd seen other trainers (including himself) jump infrount of an attack but not someone with skill like hers. The doctors had managed to remove all but 1 of the spears and it was in a tricky postion.

"If they arn't careful, she many never walk again." Neo said to himself. But just incase that happened Neo did have an idea. He dug out Raquezez from his deck of cards. He looked at 1 attack of it's. Code Rewrite. He knew it was a risky attack to use on anthing besides attacks and landscape and usually affects the whole body but Neo was wondering if it could also be used on 1 spot. The worse it could do was affect a larger area of the spine. Neo just stood there looking at his card.

Her conscious mind slowly returned to her slowly with a thought. It wasn't really a thought - more of a colour. Where there was nothing but unconsciousness before, now there was
blackness. It was strange, but even the total darkness of her slumber was welcoming to her.
She felt a dull pain as she remembered.
Her eyes flickered open slightly, and caught a glimpse
of the celing above her, the light shining down on her. She felt faintly aware of a pair of arms on her back. She couldn't move, but she didn't need to. The light was all she needed.

"Nurse, shes coming to. Give her another shot. We can't risk her moving until we can get her into surgery"
There was a prick on her arm as the needle went it.

Slowly, her eyes closed again. The light faded slowly
from her mind as she drifted back to the nothingness.

Slowly, the nothingness faded away once more.
A sharp pain filled her head, and then - with a groan - her eyes were open. They squinted shut straight away; the light
was blinding. They stayed that way for a moment, opening more
only as they adjusted to the light and began to focus.

"Nurse, I said administer another shot"
"i just did doctor, she's coming round from it already."
"What?! Thats impossible! That was enough to knock out a Omega!"

there was much communtion as Shauni began to came to. Her insints told her not to move to much as she left an object in her back that should not be there....
Here eyes burst open as memorys came to her.

Then the sensations of pain came to the area and she screamed.

Her back suddenly burst into flames (like so

The spear was thurst from her back so quickly.

Shauni fell of the bed. The screaming contuied until the flames engulfed her whole body.

just as quickly as they had begun the flames stopped. An untounched, unburned and uninjured shauni fell to the floor. Totaly blacked out
"D-doctor...look...the wound....its...there all gone!"

She was quickly lifted back onto the bed. Her skin was cold to the touch, as if she had been incased in ice. her lips where blue.

But when the doctor checked her over the only thing he could find wrong with her was she had a touch of frost bite....
"What on god green Orca just happned???"

*Meanwhile, the rest of the gamers were hanging out a short distance away, the final match having been postponed for a couple hours so they could see what happened to Shauni.*

"It's not your fault." *Josiah told Virgo for what must have been the tenth time.* "They was no way of knowing she'd jump in front of the attack like that."

"I know..." *Virgo sighed miserably.* "But what if..."

"Remember, she isn't like us." *David interrupted.* "She's part hellfire. I'm sure it will help her."

"But fudge crackers! Why would she do something so stupid in the first place? Why couldn't she just let me monster get KO'd?"

"I've been thinking about that." *Josiah stopped pacing.* "Since she showed up for the tournament she's been incredibly cold and distant and has some dark aura. The only time she showed any real emotion other than anger was when her monsters were in danger... I think this darkness that's taking over her is slowly sealing her off, taking away her emotions. It seems that, in her current state, the only thing that she can still care about is her monsters. But, since that's only a single outlet, the strength of those emotions is far stronger than it normally would be, to the point of affecting her ability to act rationally."

"That would explain why she recalled her first two monsters early and jumped in front of the last attack..."

"It's just a theory but..." *Josiah was cut off by a loud scream.*

"That was Shauni!"

"Come on! We have to find out what happened!" *The group took off running. A moment later they caught up with Neo, Yomikko, and Jeff as they pushed open the door to Shauni's room.*

"Well, that's good, I think..." *Opal muttered as they headed back to the arena.*

"I'm glad she's ok, but all these new powers are making me nervous." *Josiah would have liked to stay a bit longer to make sure everything was alright but the final match would be starting soon and he couldn't miss that.*

"You've got a point but if you don't focus on our battle you'll have no chance of beating me." *Silver was quick to point out.*

"Right." *Josiah grinned inspite of himself.* "Let's hurry."

Just as everyone sat down Shauni burst threw the doors, glanced at everyone and sat down.
Yomikko and Jeff following worriedly behind here
"where are you going Get back in bed!"
She spotted Josiah and bound over to him in a rage
She glared at him, her face contorted in anger
"way to go Josiah" she said, yanked his arm, shuck it and sat down away from the others
"Shauni!"
"leave her be!"
Jeff yanked Yomikko away
"Dont, not now!"
She pulled her to her seat
"Dont bother her...she's furious""
"Why?? she threw the fight"
"I think she's mad at herself"

*Josiah looked over at Shauni, trying to decide if there was something he could say or do to help. But, if Jeff and Yomikko couldn't reach her, it seemed unlikely that he'd fair any better. The only idea he could think of at the moment was having Virgo attempt a forced evil purge on her but this wasn't the time. With a sigh, he got up and headed down to towards the arena although the announcer had yet to call the final match. He didn't want to deal with Shauni right now.*

"Why can't all of us even have a friendly get together any more? Shauni, Jeff, David... They've all been changed so much more than the rest of us. But they weren't the only ones who have been possessed, so why did it affect them so much more strongly?" *He sighed again, thinking back to the days of their first adventure in Orca. Everything had been so much simpler then...*

Shauni glanced at Josiah. unoticed a playfil grin fell over her face.

*maybe I should come clean soon...toying with them isn't that fun anymore....*
She closed her eyes and sighed
*shauni is going to be so made when she finds out what i have been doing....*

Shauni lay back and scrathced her head
*Its been so long since I was in control of my mind on its own I wanted some fun...o well....I'll guess I'll let shauni have the body back soon enough*

Silver and Josiah were called to the battlefield to start the final match of the tournament.

"Well, this is it... I know you've been training hard and all that crap, but don't think I haven't! Sure, you're probably gonna win, but if you expect this to be easy you're in for one heck of a rude awakening! Go, Kojie!" Silver shouted, the lion appearing from its card with a roar.
