Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
It could be just that something might not have a taste that isn't quite discribable and so say it tastes like Chicken. Though it could only be mainly the bird family as well.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Actually, "tastes like chicken" refers to a taste that stimulates the "Umami" related taste buds. Some guy, Kikunae Ikeda, found we actually have 5 different taste senses: sweet, sour, salty, bitter, and "umami."
Can we get a translation on that? I think it meant either "meat" or "chicken."

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
My Japanese-English dictionary vaguely translates it as something along the lines of flavor or deliciousness. Not a big help...PoikSpirit wrote:Actually, "tastes like chicken" refers to a taste that stimulates the "Umami" related taste buds. Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Actually, I am serious. You can look it up. Except the "tastes like chicken" part. That can still be any number of things. "The umami taste is due to the detection of the carboxylate anion of glutamic acid, a naturally occurring amino acid common in meats, cheese, broth, stock, and other protein-heavy foods." This is from wiki. Also, it says "tasty" is roughly correct, "although 'brothy', 'meaty', or 'savory' have been proposed as alternate translations."

I figured you were serious, that's why I looked it up.
Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Simple. A wizard did it. A wizard always does it. He's the cause of so many problems and conundrums and many, many occurrences such as this.

Micheal Jackson died... :( Even though he made several mistakes in life... I forgive him.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
What are you people not getting about the question mark after the big? This thread is not for big issues at all. It is a joke. Stop taking yourselves so seriously.
Anyway, this is all a matter of evolution. Scientists have been lying to you your whole life. We didn't come from amoeba. We didn't come from fish or monkeys or anything like that, either. Every single being in existence... evolved from the chicken. As for what came first, the chicken or the egg? Chicken. What came first, the chicken or the protozoa? Chicken.
So of course it would taste like chicken.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Not to mention that I've repeatedly restated the way this thread works... Namely I posted the issues and we make them "big" whether they are or not.
And, going off of Gar's comment... Everyone always says that a wizard did it, but what did the poor wizards do to derserve all the blame for every strange thing that happens. There's plenty of other magic users and strange creatures out there than can cause trouble, so why is it always the wizards' fault? Is it all some massive anti-wizard conspiracy?

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
They have the magic. If they don't want the publicity, they shouldn't have made a TVTrope about it. Or at the very least, they could just poof it away. I think that the whole page... well, A Wizard Did It, because they've always wanted attention. Living in secrecy in Hogwarts gets on your nerves after a while.

That's because usually when something unexplainable or annoying happens, it is the fault of a wizard. More specifically, Sarda The Wizard Who Did It. Because it was usually him, a wizard, the phrase came to include all wizards.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
It's about time this thread got a revival. So, what terribly important issue is facing us now? It's the classic pie-in-the-face routine. Specifically, why is always cream pies? What's wrong with a nice apple or cherry pie? Or maybe pumpkin? Why is it that we are unfairly limited to only throwing cream pies in peoples' faces?

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Okay, so last year as a fundraiser for our trip to Global Finals we raised money using a pie-in-the-face competition. We got several teachers to participate, and asked students to donate a dollar, and as they did so they'd choose which teacher they wanted to get pied in the face. We raised a bit over $200 :DJosiah wrote:It's about time this thread got a revival. So, what terribly important issue is facing us now? It's the classic pie-in-the-face routine. And... we used a lemon creme pie. "Because it was the squishiest" Direct quote from my friend, it got in the town paper :P (the pie in the face thing was on the FRONT PAGE! WHOOO!) I also got a quote in the paper: "Who wouldn't want to see a teacher get pied in the face?" BUT THAT'S BESIDE THE POINT.
So... yeah... lemon. Pie in the face, and it was funny. Ker-splat. Pie everywhere! :D
