Utena RP

This roleplay is based off of the Shoujo Kakumei Utena (Revolutionary Girl Utena) anime series and movie. Most of the main structure will be coming from the movie however.

The setting is an imaginary world created by a witch's curse. Who this witch is, we may never know. But this is a world where absolutely anything is possible. Someone you know might actually be a butterfly or you might find out that someone else has been turned into a car.

The main place to be is at the Ohtori Academy, which is where this RP is actually taking place. Ohtori Academy is an enormous mass of towers and ascending staircases and raised platforms. Just barely visible from the tallest tower in the school, there is a large crystal palace that seems more like an illusion. But it is not. No one has ever been able to enter it, but everyone know that it holds a great secret. This will be fairly important later on. There are also rose gardens growing everywhere, the wind often sends their petals scattering across the academy. It is a tribute to the Rose Bride.

The Rose Bride is the sister of the headmaster of the academy. She is adored by all and saught by some, for it is rumored that she is the key to unlocking this curse. As with all schools, the academy has a student council. But this council is quite different. It is composed entirely of duelists, Duelists of the Roses, all of whom are competing to possess the Rose Bride and the secret power within her. The only identifying mark of a duelist is a ring with a rose crest on it, typically worn on the left ring finger at all times. Everyone who joins this RP will be playing a duelist of the council. I myself will take care of the Headmaster and the Rose Bride.

Now, here are the rules that the duelists must follow in order to win the Rose Bride. Naturally the duelists must Duel each other in order to compete for the Rose Bride. These duels can only be one-on-one. Once a challenge has been issued, no refusal is accepted. A set of ringing bells signals the start of the duel. No duelist is allowed to fight without a sword, as swords are the only weapon we'll be using in this RP. The matches occur in a large, raised platform located just outside of school grounds, it is only opened to duelists. The Rose Bride pins roses of various colors to the Duelists' jackets. They then swordfight, until one duelist wins by knocking away the opponent's rose with his or her blade. The winner then holds the title of owner of the Rose Bride. He or she will then be facing more challenges from other duelists. That's just the cycle of things.

Wow, I didn't think you went for this kind of thing, Stevenson, but I'm happy to have you join. Hmm, Marley is right however. Please choose a different color of rose. Now, about your questions...

The owner of the Rose Bride has claim to her as soon as he/she wins a duel. They continue to have ownership until they lose a duel. That's probably not a very good answer but that's how it goes in Utena. If you lose the duel, nothing really happens to you, except maybe disgrace or something dramatic like that. The swords that we're using are all simple thin blade swords, but they can be your own individual weapon depending on colors and decorations. You can even summon them in an extravegant way. Although, in Utena's first duel of the movie, she uses a bamboo broom handle in place of a sword... and wins. So I suppose as long as it can be used in similar ways to a sword, you can use it. Um, I hope that cleared a few things up...

Um, okay...I'm pretty much game for any rp. Well, almost any rp. I don't know what it is that makes you think otherwise, but whatever.

Well, I guess the question is, when do they get to do stuff, a la crystal palace? I mean, that's the whole point, right?

Well, sort of, but that palace will come in later. First, let's get in a few good duels, friendly exchanges, school activities, etc. If no one else joins this within the next day or so, then I'll start it off.

(All right, I suppose I'll start it off now.)

The school bell rang, releasing the academy students from their classes. The day had finally come to an end. The hallways filled with students, some heading to their dorms, some to after school activities, and some just going to hang around the campus.

Anthy Himemiya began walking towards the headmaster's office, intent on visiting her brother before returning to her dorm room. She soon arrived at his door and knocked softly. "Brother? May I come in?", she called softly to him.

The door opened and Akio stood before his younger sister. "Of course, Anthy.", he replied, moving to side so that she could walk into the office. After she had taken a seat in one of the chairs, he closed the door and turned to her. "How was your day? Do you want to talk about something?", Akio asked, seeming the perfect picture of a concerned brother.

"My day was just fine.", Anthy smiled up at him. "But I just wanted to let you know... I am now engaged to the latest prince who has dueled for me. The strange thing is... it is a girl. Her name is Shiima. I do not know much about her, but she seems like a very kind person... If not a little strange." She giggled softly.

(Just letting you know, I decided on a shorter title for the current owner of the rose bride. They will be refered to as "the Prince." Hope that's all right.)

Shiima Ohkami was walking down a hallway, holding her schoolbag in her hand and wearing her sword on her hip openly. The ring with the rose crest, which was the symbol of the Duelists, gleamed brightly on her left ring finger. Every so often, she would sigh and look at it, wondering how on earth she could have won in her last duel. And how on earth she would deal with the headmaster's little sister, whom she had never even gotten to know before as a student.

Stevenson was also walking through a hall, thinking to himself. He hadn't actually won a duel yet. He thought perhaps that somebody would challenge his title as duelist of the roses. He didn't seem to be holding his honor up very well. He had his sword on his hip, for all the good it did him. "This is not going to be a good day. I can feel it." he groaned, still walking downtroddenly down the hall.
