Well you see, The only way for a genderless pokemon to have an egg is to breed with a ditto. To do that, the ditto "Absorbs" the Pokemon's DNA, then copies it to make an egg.

It was lonely... you promised you'd write to me, but you never did... the months passed by, and I still thought of you every day, but you never called. I never got any letters from you.

So eventually, I started to lose faith... I thought you had been killed in that terrible, terrible war. Or maybe that you had forgotten about me. It's been so long, you probably found another girl over there... I never stopped loving you, but I didn't think you cared about me anymore, so welcoming you back just would have been too painful for me... I'm sorry. I'm glad you've come back home *sniff*

I think I agree with Josiah. "Genderless" Pokemon could actually be hermaphrodites. It's a bit of a freaky concept...or there really are no "genderless" Pokemon, and the game designers just labeled them that to keep us from getting more of them easily (in the case of legendaries and stuff like Voltorb, that is. I'm afraid Ditto is stuck with hermaphrodite status).

No, there are animals that do that. TRUST ME.

Er... normally I'd say something about aliens, but... in the fifth grade, I had to watch a video about snail reproduction. I know we're not talking about snails, but THEY don't have genders and manage to reproduce just fine...
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

They could also change their gender from one to the other. I know some breeds of frogs do that. I don't know how they change their gender but the do. Also I think theres some types of fish that are born male and change genders to female once they reach a certain age/size. Thats why some fish have restrictions on how many and what size fishies you can catch.
Redback, Funnel-Web, Blue-ringed octopus
Taipan, Tigersnake and a Box jellyfish
Stonefish and the poison thing that lives in a shell
That spikes you when you pick it up

Clownfish change genders... the males turn female if there are no longer females wherever the group is. xD xD

With all of this nonsense, I think we've lost track of the question:

They can't change gender, mainly because they DON'T BREED IN THE FIRST PLACE.
Stevenson's Vocabulary Word of the Week:

Foment: (verb) To excite or arouse, i.e. 2014's Week of Randomness hopes to foment some activity on the forums.

Stevenson's Latin Phrase of the Week:

Brutum Fulmen: (senseless thunderbolt) This phrase, coined by Pliny the elder, is used to refer to an empty threat.

Alright, I HATE CATCHING SHINYS.

I found my first one about... five minutes ago. A Level 57 SHINY Aridos appeared, and I flipped. Then , switched to Level 53 Purugly and used Body Slam...
'A Cricital Hit'
'Wild Aridos fainted!'

GAGAGHAH.

Yeah they do, at least some do. Not the legendaries but there are plenty of genderless pokémon that you can breed either with each other or with a ditto.

Well, then, it's more along the lines of (if a ditto is needed) you actually need to genetically replicate them, or (if others of the same species needed) they're just really specific or choosy.

I see no evidence of hermaphrodites in pokemon.

Well, just for the record, Mr.Mime's Japanese name didn't make any gender implications...

And there's always Manaphy. I don't have one, so I don't know, but... If I'm not mistaken, it has a pre-evolved form that you can only get by breeding with Ditto. Which I find kind of weird.

And there was the story arc in the anime that had a baby Lugia looking for its mother... I know the anime is psychotic (Never forgave it for when Ash's Pidgeotto was KO'd by a Sandshrew's Dig >.>) but that DOES imply that either legendary Pokemon do actually have genders or that they're hermaphrodites.

...Or that they're all ALIENS!

Phione is not the pre evolved form of manaphy!!!

It is according to the Psydex.

Also, in your quote, why is 'Ditto' not capitalized? You're missing the period, too... it's kind of weird.

well, the reason legendaries are genderless is because there are either very few of them, or that they are the only one of there kind. because there are so very few of them we are not able to tell wheather it is male of female. please don't add cressillia or heatran as it rips my explanation into shreads
