I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but to have had that much knowledge, he had to have been a partaker in the history. I say Phonox did it, and was trying to frame platinu- err Silver. As much as I loved that post to death, I fear I must change my vote to the man formerly known as the man in a bow tie.

So, while everyone was arguing about who the Mafia was, Silver was trying to slink away because he KNEW he had been found out. However, Princess noticed him leaving and shouted for everyone to get after him. He ran for a while, but eventually got caught on the edge of a cliff.
"It's your move Silver. What's it going to be? A jail cell...or death."
Silver looked over the cliff.
Then back to them.
Then back to the cliff.
Then back to them.
Sadly, he wasn't them.
"You'll never take me alive!" he said as he jumped off the cliff. However, someone had planned that he would come here and put a giant net on the edge of the cliff. Unfortunately for Silver, THE NET IS NOW DIAMONDS. He then preceded to plummet to his death. The group walked away, thinking it was the end of Silver and the Mafia...
