Hi! Let's keep the election talk to the election thread. Just to clarify how our government works though (since Shauni brought it up), it's actually congress that makes most of the decisions on things (and the members are elected by the people, the president doesn't have anything to do with it). The president can bring matters to congress and he can veto things passed by congress (in which case, they return to congress for another vote and, if they pass again with a pretty high margin, they survive the veto) but he's really not as powerful as you might think. Congress has been controlled by the Democrats since 2006, and currently has a rock bottom approval rating here in the US. Though the news still blames everything that happens on Bush, not them...

But that's enough on that (like I said, let's keep any further election talk to the election thread). Astral, Kaida, I wish all the foreigners I know took as little interest in US elections are you do.

A few people around here were making a bit of conversation on the matter, but where I am is in that state of "old news, don't care" when it comes to this election. My parents pestered me to go watch Obama's speech, but the people in the tv lounge here had changed the channel to sports right after the election was over.
In other news, only 2 out of my 5 midterms this week are left. I'm really, really hoping I don't fail another physics test.

Have fun at your bonfire, Shauni ;-)

Doodleshark, that's so awesome. Now I want a chocolate mousse moose.

Yes, now that the election is behind us, I suggest we not dwell on it until Obama is sworn in.

Hey.
Me and my friends talked a bit about th election today, but not as much as I would have expected. My major-republican friend (the kind that just votes for republicans because they're republicans, unlike my dad who's a republican but actually voted for Obama) was bein all obnoxious, though, and his arguments made little sence.
We talked about the questions, though. Everything went right here, as far as I'm concerned. We're not getting rid of income tax, marajuana has been decrimanalized (not legalized, there's a difference) and dog racing is now illegal. We only had 3 questions over here.

Bah. My math teacher's being stupid. She said she'd post the homework online (for she didn't tell us it in class) 5 minutes after class, and it's been 2 hours and it's not there. Can't very well do my homework without it. :(

Edit:

On the return to congress, it has to be at least 2/3 of the votes to override the veto. Just felt like putting that out.
And, I do believe vetoing things is a powerful thing, though not quite powerful as most people tend to think.

Here's one to break your brain - the moon isn't our moon. It's true, my physics teacher did this intense explanation showing exactly why it actually orbits the sun instead of looping around us.
Nah, I already broke my brain earlier this year.
We talked about the Big bang theory and the creation of the universe, and also the big crunch and heat death theories.
Need I say more?
My friend in Calculus would discuss with me how to create a time bending watch and how it would work, or how the effects would be confined to an area. Also we talked about how, since gravity is dependant on time, how slowing down time would decrease the gravitational pull.

You'd think AP Calculus II would keep us busy.

Apart from PVF and MSN I don't think anyone I know has actually mentioned the US elections. We we're more excited about the Melbourne Cup Race then the US elections.

Hm. Sounds interesting.
I still think the creation of the universe is more brain-hurty.
There was a small sphere that contained EVERYTHING. Outside of that was nothing! Not even a vacuum! ABSOLUETLY NOTHING!

I haven''t forgotten, I just haven't had the chance to do it.

It's kindda sad really, I don't have as much time for the forums(or anything computer related) as I used to.

Better. Because it will exist.
And we talked about that in Calculus I. Infinite mass and energy in an infinitesimally small point. Why can't it be a rift where one Universe collided with another and matter splashed through? It makes more sense then string theory.
Death is a contemplation similar. What is infinite nothing like. Thank the goodnesses there's an afterlife eh? :-P

I LOVE Mind-bendy science.

In physics we were discussing "Frames of Reference" talking about Relativity.

It's basically everything is movine in relation to each other. If you are standing on a planet watching something moving close to the speed of light, it appears shorter in one dimention (the direction it's moving in), Time appears to be going slower for that thing and it's mass increases.

Alternatively if you are on that object, the planet appears shorter, it's mass increases and time appears to be moving at a slower rate.

I loved it becasue I understood it and I kept asking the teacher hypothetical questions about Time travel (becasue that's related to it too^^) and stuff and THE SMARTEST GUY IN THE CLASS (probably the school) who I sat with in physics actually said "my brain hurts"

You have no idea how smart that made me feel.

However simple stuff like Newton's laws and the electricity units I couldn't remember the formulae for >.< My mind jsut works in funny ways...

(I hope that was explained proerly before. I'm trying to type, remember what I'm typing whjile the Radio is blaring beside me, people are talking loudly and DAD HAS THE TV MUTED SO THE NOISES FROM THE SPEAKERS ARE GETTING ON MY NERVES!!!)

.. so there you go^^ I'd like to read that thing about the watch again when I can actually concentrate and figure out wtf you're saying >.< Stupid people in the room... *grumble*

My physics teacher decided to give us a "just for fun" calculation, asking us to find the minimal mass of a black hole - a planet/sun/whatever-you-call-it that is so dense that it's gravitational force is stronger than the speed of light. Not much fun.
Also, I saw V For Vendetta for the first time just now. I think I sorta understand the mobs of Guy Fawkes mask wearers that pop up on the news now and then (halloween too).
