Yosh!

Alright, so this comic is called Yosh!(The “!” is part of the title) I read this when I was first beginning to read webcomics (I thought it was a comic about Yoshi. Shows how much I know ), but I still check it from time to time. Aside from the shows on Toonami, it was my first exposure to the manga/anime genre. As a result, some things went over my head (honorifics, references, etc.) but it didn’t matter much since it was still entertaining.

So, the comic takes place in a modern world where magic is revealed to be real. It started several years ago during an event known as the Weirding, when a large number of people suddenly developed animal traits (tails, ears, etc.) or weird powers. One of the main characters, Kate, was affected by this, and a sad story follows.

But now there is this group called The Five, who are the most gifted magic users. They’re after something…I don’t think it’s been said yet.

The main character’s a guy named Phil, who has an ability called “Null”, which means he can endure any kind of physical/magical harm, such as falling out of a building. He’s friends with a Ninja named Tom and a multimillionaire named Shiden who has created an army of robot girls, something about being obsessed with Chobits (which I have yet to look up for some reason…I do that after I finish this).

Oh, and there’s Penpen, because everything’s better with penguins.

First few comics aren’t colored or well drawn and the plot makes no sense, but the quality of the art and story improve. It’s nothing amazing, but it’s good. The storyline doesn’t really start until after the first fifty comics or so, if I remember correctly. The comics before that just help you get to know the main characters.

Now I’m going to go and catch up on the plot :-P.

It's interesting...but not really my cup of tea. It surprisingly reminds me of the early megatokyo, that I was re-reading at the library yesterday, the kind of wackiness that goes on. The plot also got a little bit...I don't know...

It's a comic I might consider following next time I'm looking, but nothing really grabbed my attention, even when I gto to the storyline.

Oh wow. I totally forgot about Yosh! Same here, it was one of the first webcomics I read when I was just starting to get into them... I followed it for a while, but to be honest it's just a mediocre comic so I dropped it after a while... I mean, it's ok, the story's generic but not poor, the characters are generic but not annoying, the art is pretty good but not outstanding... it's worth a read if you've got time to kill, it really isn't bad, but...

I did get a few laughs out of it as well, not even understanding the references. I suppose I do owe it a re-read, since I read it so long ago...

Awesome!
I've been reading it for a while, forgot about it and re-read it, and fininshed re-reading it a few weeks ago!

I especially loved it when Pen-Pen was in the Mech suit...

Fairly interesting. The art improves rather dramatically as time goes on, so much so that when I went from the current page back to the first page, I assumed it was a different artist.

I don't really have a favourite strip. They're pretty solid.

I'm interested, but I'm still a ways back in the archive. So far it's a good comic. A little scatterbrained, like the main character, but good. I may keep reading it as I have time.

Well, I haven't gotten far yet, but so far it seems very all over the place, and there seems to be little plot, but I think I just need to read futrther. Clearly the art does get much, much better. I think I'll keep reading.

The plot gets extremely complicated. And there is a plot.

I've gotten though around 300 strips so far. Wanted to see how the plot developed before commenting. So anyway, while the art does improve pretty quickly (to the point where it's fairly good) so far there hasn't been anything to really hook me storywise. Fortunately, the comic does get a story pretty quickly (the early random stuff was pretty bad) and the characters are ok (though Penpen is a clear rip-off of Bunbun from Sluggy Freelance), but there's nothing very original here. It's mostly a big mash up of cliches and anime stereotypes. There's also the occasionally problamatic pacing (some strips skip from one event to another, without adequetly filling in what goes on between the two). Overall, I agree with Silver. It's certainly not a bad comic, but it's not a particularily good one either. I might read more at some point just to kill some time, but only if I don't have any better comics available.

Yeah, I really need to read a few more strips, because I really don't see a story line yet.
