Kid Radd

Post by Josiah »

Time for a sprite comic! Although, it actually uses completely original sprites made for the comic, not ones from real games, so maybe I should call it pixel art...
Anyway, this week's comic is Kid Radd. You can use that link to go to the first strip or, if you prefer, you can download the entire comic on the main page.
Before you read it you should keep a couple of things in mind.
1: The comic has ended so, if you want, you can actually read through the entire thing.
2: This comic is animated using some really cool html tricks. Unfortunately, said tricks are so cool that some browsers seem to have trouble with them. It used to work fine in IE6 but some people have been having problems lately. It sorta works in IE7 but some animations don't trigger properly... Anyway... It DOES WORK in Firefox so I'd recommend using that to view it.
Plot Summary: Kid Radd was an old NES game (not really but for the purposes of this comic it was. The comic starts out following Radd's adventures through the game but soon expands as he and other characters from the game find themselves pulled into a much larger world populated by sprites from lots of different games. Eventually they have to try and save the world and all that. The story in interesting and has some great characters.
Art: The stuff is mostly 8-bit pixel work but it's really good and the animations are top notch (at least as long as you're using the right browser).
Things to Know: Once again, the comic no longer works properly in all browsers, use Firefox. Aside from the completed comic there's some fun bonus stuff on the site.
Favorite Strips Not in the First 50: It's a pain to link to individual strips in Kid Radd but I will say that most of the 4th Wall Weeks are really good.

Well this webcomic's pretty amusing, I'm really impressed that it actually moves some of the time. So far the little group of strips I like most is probably Walk of Life.

I’ve read all these comics back to back a long time ago. I loved this comic and really enjoyed its content and humor. It was a shame the comic had to end, but I guess even the never ending story had a finally. My personal favorite was the part were they were trying to figure out how to store the colored blocks without them killing themselves. The fact they used mirrors to keep them happy, I found rather amusing.
"BOW BEFORE THE SHAUNINESS THAT IS SHAUNI! "--Shadowman

"Shauni fell down a drainage ditch and died. That was the end of her pokemon journey. "--Shauni

I find it strange that I haven't read this comic before... It's just the kind of thing you'd expect me to be a fan of, isn't it? And I suppose I am now... I should probably go read 8-bit Theater while I'm at it.

Anyway, yeah, the occasional animations were cool. I rather enjoyed Kobayashi/Kielbasi and the whole ninja fight arc thing. Particularly the "Mom was right" pannel, which it stinks that I can't link to. Oh! And the NPC Party games from the "Reset" arc thing. I want to try Five Player Badmintion sometime.

The Kid Radd 2 thing got to be a bit... well, it was Cheesey, plain and simple. I guess the "Magical Maid Robo Sheena" bit covers that, but the cheese got to be a bit excessive... eh, it's all good.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.
