The Dreamer

Post by Siranae »

Alright, my comic for this week is The Dreamer by Laura Innes.

Normally, romantic genres are not my thing. I'll admit, I almost didn't feel like reading it after the first few pages. But history is something that really interests me, and this comic takes place during the American Revolutionary War in 1776. Well, for half the time it is. The rest of it is in the 21st Century.

The main character is a modern teenager named Beatrice Whaley, an aspriring actress who knows next to nothing about US history. She begins to have dreams about the war that are surprisingly realistic, as well as accurate. Every time she falls asleep, it continues near where she left off. Her usual companions while in these dreams are Nathan Hale (who she, for some reason, doesn't know about. I thought every American knew who he was :drop: ), Frederick Knowlton, and ficticious Allen Warren, who is apparently somewhat of her boyfriend.
Being historical, there are also scenes with notable people like George Washington and Colonel Knowlton.
The comic is well researched, down to every name and event. And, of course being in a war setting, there is plenty of action. So even if your not American you'll probably still enjoy it.

A few pages I like:
This is really a two page spread, so you'll have to click on it to get the right size.
A little communication problem. :-P
I probably wouldn't have believed her here either, I'm sorry to say. He does put up a good arguement.
This is just funny.

I think I'll stick to comedies. It was good for its genre -the art is great, the story is good, the details are interesting- but I get enough drama in high school.
Hmm... This signature just got really short...

Sorry Sira, I really didn't like it either. It's just too serious for me. I like reading over the top fantasy comedies, and maybe a bit of Sci-fi. but this doesn't really cut it for me.
This is my RP Forum, Tales of Symphonia Adventures, or ToSA for short. Please take a look?

Well, I liked it for one. Yes, I do like comedies and fantasy-sci-fi stuff, but the American Revolution is one of my favorite time periods (which I know way too little about in my opinion. I'd love to learn more, actually). I also like romance from time to time. The art is good, I think the comic is very well done. Read through the entire archive.

I liked this comic, 'cos it kinda reminds me of my own life. The definition of crude has definatly changed over the years...or maybe it's just high schools.
May the Triforce be with you.

And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid." ~ William Ernest Henley

I'm not usually into historical or war things, nor am I usually into romance... but this really did appeal to my squeeing girl side that's been becoming more prominent lately.

I love the art, and the story is great..

I don't really know anything about the history involved so it's just like any other fictional story to me though.

Yeah.. I like it^^ Read the whole archive. Want some more now^^

Definately different than most of the web comics you see out there. Actually, I don't think I've ever come across a historical web comic before. Anyway, it's not a bad idea and the art is pretty good too. The main character strikes me as a bit wishy-washy (a couple of dreams and she's ready to forget all about the guy she likes?), but overall it's not a bad comic. And a lot of kids these days could certainly use the extra history lesson...

Idiot! Ben is awesome! He wants to be Mercutio! Therefore you should not just ignore your crush on Ben, especially for the sake of some non-existant dream history guy! Go out with Ben, before it's... too late...

Eh heh. So, um... It's certainly interesting... I like the use of American history, and the art is amazing. But the main character is really annoying. I pretty much don't like anything about her except the Thespian-ism. She just seems so... generic. But otherwise, nothing to complain about.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Yeah, the author usually describes the main character as a "seventeen year old brat" :-P

"A bit wishy washy" that says that there aren't people out there that are really like that >_>
