So....you're saying you wrote a statement and that was the riddle? That there IS no answer?

And it better not be 'what' like Aura said.

Sheesh, you guys really have taken this too seriously, the answer is kinda obvious, well, there was 2 answers that I accept, the first one being: God came first. The second being: The earth came before either, since, the chicken nor the egg can live without the earth in the first place, nor could either have either existed without God creating them.
Happy? I'll let..... Eclectric state a riddle now, since I liked his guess the best xD

A riddle should make sense, dude. no one looked at the grammar! And after you told us, it made no sense, as there was no sentence structure! seriously.

Might be obvious to you NG, but no one else. Sorry, but there's almost no chance someone will think up either of your answers just from that question. And your hints just made things more confusing since you indicated that it had something to do with the grammar...

I thought it was clever, and the hint, well, I suppose that it wasn't very helpful, but I thought it would have given it away too, I mean, usually if there is a comma, then a period you can omit the part from the comma to the period and the sentence still be true, so the 'real' riddle was "What came first?" the chicken or egg part was just to confuse you, but I guess that wasn't obvious, still, I let whoever wants to do the next riddle post one, I don't care. >>

Actually the riddle doesn't work. In order for that to work, both parts of the sentence would have to be a complete thought. "the chicken or the egg" is not a complete thought. "What came first" is a complete thought. This is a simple sentence with a compound subject. It could be re-written as: "The chicken or the egg came first." Your grammar did not separate the sentence into "What came first?" and "the chicken or the egg" as separate thoughts. You should better-understand grammar before you attempt to make a grammar riddle.
