The Big(?) Issues Thread
Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
I think the whole Straight Q Squiggly Q started back in the medieval period when there were scribes. You see, back then, the more extravagances a scribe wrote down, the more costly the service. The upper case Q was the most extravagant, and it ran up to loads of dollars/pounds/shillings/bronze pieces/whatever currency system was in place at the time. Some of the lords hated that and made a proclamation that all extravagances must be to a bare minimum, especially the Q. The scribes hated this because Q's were very lucrative and put an extra loaf of bread of the table. Eventually it all came down to the present time where there is a whole debate whether there should be straight Qs for simplicity over squiggly Qs for aesthetics.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
I'd like to think you just made that up, Gar, but knowing the middle ages, it really wouldn't surprise me...
Anyway, Q's should be squiggly! It's more fun that way! Don't you want writing to be fun? I mean, how often do you see a capital q anyway? I certainly don't see it as a sentence starter very often. Or in a name, for that matter. So does it really hurt to go that extra mile for one of the most neglected, under-appreciated, unnecessary of all letters? Poor Q. I still love you, even though you're just "Kw" or "Ky"...
Yeah, I just figured it was about time someone took a side on this issue because no one seems to care.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Now that you mention it, when was the last time I actually handwrote an upper case Q? If I wrote in block, I'd probably use a straight line, cause it's easier, but the squiggly line does look cool. Thing is, if I'm writing something by hand I typically write in cursive and a cursive capital Q is... Actually, I don't think I remember how to write a cursive capital Q. Shows how often I use it. Darn, I just know that's going to come back to haunt me someday... "And now, for $1,000,000 write every capital letter of the alphabet in cursive!" You know, something like that.
Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Fun fact: When I was taught to write in cursive, the capital Q looked a lot like a 2 or an L. Go figure.

Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
I handwrite, so my Q looks absolutely nothing like the internet Q. But yeah, definitely straight line!

Neither, the only Q that is good is the one with the zigzag line, fools. It's like a lightning bolt in your word.
Hmm... This signature just got really short...

Here's an easy one. Why is the sky blue? Do you think it would look better as a different color instead?
Re: The Big(?) Issues Thread
Because it matches the ocean, duh.

Actually, the sea is more of a blue-green than actual blue. Plus, the sky is actually blue because all the other colours were already taken. Grass got green, apples got red, sand got brown, and so on.

Nice. Technically nitrogen is the answer to that question, but science is no fun so I'm going to go with, "because it's such a mellowing color."
I mean, if it were green, it would be nauseating. Purple would be just too royal. Yellow would be too bright. Pink would just be plain weird. So the artists in the sky went with blue and saved the other colors for sunrise and sunset.

The sky isn't blue.
It's all a lie.
No but seriously, the sky's only blue at certain times of day. Often it's purple, often it's orange, red, etc. I have yet to see a nice shade of green, but I'm not picky. :3

"There's a moment after the sunset when the sky is suddenly green/ and the world stands hushed and waiting/ for the first white stars to convene/ when you see that emerald sky/ you'll know the reason why/ there's not another place I'd rather be/ keep your El Dorado/ and to hell with Burgandy..." -"Normandy", Once Upon a Mattress
If you want to see a nice green sky, head to Normandy. Except, well...
According to my sister, "If the sky was red, it would clash with the grass." But really, I think it's more about matching alien's slimy green skin than grass... They chose the color of the sky, you know.
