Hi! Yeah, Obama won, though it was extremely close in a lot of states. -.- And the Republicans kept control of the house while the Democrats kept control of the senate. So, in other words, nothing changed. It's a little surprising, really. Approval ratings for Obama and the government in general haven't been good so I was expecting (and hoping) for a bit more of a shake-up. At least the ads and polling phone calls have stopped.

Um, yeah....I don't know what those are, but to be fair you prob wouldn't know the difference between our houses of parliament or lords either :-P

Hi! Of course I do! The House of Lords is much more royal and lordly. They go around with monocles and scepters, talking about how unruly the peasants have become. :-P Ok, ok, I have no idea. Though I think I did learn about it at one point. To Wikipedia!

Moi,

I'm going to try and keep this post as short as I can. I've had a headache all day and...well, lets just say I got a little bit sick when I got home from Anime club. I'm actually still not feeling all that great, but I'm determined to try and remain somewhat active around here.

So, the election is finally over, the stupid ads will finally stop, life can return to normal, and everyone can have their big election hangover. To be honest, I wasn't all that surprised by the results, or really all that interested. The lack of interest might have partially been because I have been working on two essays over the last week or so. One in English and one in US History. The one in US history is about, big surprise here, the elections. For the past three or four days, I have been reading over both the Democratic and Republican Party's Platforms, so it's not that hard to understand why I'm a little bit tired of hearing about politics.
Actually, while reading through the Republican Party's Platform, I found something interesting. In one part, they talk about making the internet more "family friendly" (Pffft. Yeah, right...) and how, "Current laws on all forms of pornography and obscenity need to be vigorously enforced." (Yes, an actual quote. I do my research!) I don't know about anybody here, but I know quite a few people that would not support something like this at all. Sure, it's a fine idea and all, but it's just not going to work. I mean...seriously? They were also mentioning prohibiting gambling over the internet. Same as the above, a good idea, but it's probably not going to go all that well with quite a lot of people.

Anyway...I have to finish up a few things on my English essay and then I'm going to try and get to sleep early tonight.

Stay radical people. Peace off!

Not that far off actually LOL

Parliament seats are elected by Voters, Lords are inherited or passed on. Basically Lords are, Lords LOL Or at least that is how it was, but we don't elect seats in the house of lords.

Hi! Actually Poison, gambling is illegal on the internet, at least in the US.

On my end, I'm leaving work a little early today...because I have a dentist appointment. Yay...

Hey.

Thank god Obama won. Almost everyone at the election party I was at was pro-Obama. There would have been so many angry people there had Romney won.

Sigh. I really wish I cared more about the election. I really do. I wish I had real opinions. I do find it hard to stand by a candidate who doesn't think I should be able to marry in some states, though. Speaking of that, mad excited for the states that established equal rights for marriage! Every time we heard that had passed in a state, everyone shouted with joy and took a large swig of their drink.

Oh lovely college is lovely. Also, drinking games played to acceptance and concession speeches. I made sure my drink wasn't too strong, though, so I was fine because, y'know, Wednesday classes are a thing.

Yeah.

I don't ever remember Romney saying he had any plans to make gay marriage illegal, though... likewise I don't remember Obama ever saying he had plans TO make it legal. And whatever the case, neither of those would get anywhere in congress, so it's kind of a moot point.

More than that, there are states that have specifically decided to make it legal for themselves, and others that have specifically made it illegal. Which I think is a perfectly fine system - the fact of the matter is that some people are still opposed to the whole thing. It's impossible to please everyone. So if we handle this democratically and let each region decide to accept it on their own, then the larger amount of people will be happy. Gradually, more and more people will get used to the whole thing - or more like, the baby boomers will all die off and they're the only people that have a problem with it anyway - and with time it won't even be an issue anymore.

It would be nice of we could get to the point where all states recognize marriages from out of state soon though. As it is now, it's pretty complicated: You can get married here, but not there or there, if you go here to get married then you can go there and they'll still say that you're married, but if you go there they'll tell you that they can't give you taxable marriage status, and over there they'll tell you that you're not married at all... sort of a mess.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Hi! I think Silver makes a good summary there (and he's completely right about what Romney and Obama did and didn't say). Personally, I think if you called it a called is a civil union or something like that, far fewer people would be opposed, they just don't want the term marriage redefined. The thing is, marriage is more of a personal and religious thing than a legal one. Making it legal just gives you a tax break. Regardless of state laws, there's nothing stopping people from having a ceremony, living together, changing one of their last name's to match, and pretty much everything else other than the tax thing.

Oh, and Saber, I believe you've said you're bi, right? In that case, there's a perfectly decent chance you'll eventually end up with someone you can marry in any state. Not to downplay your current relationship. Just saying...

We have the whole Civil Partnership here, but lets be honest, its a marriage in everything but name, so why not just call it a marriage.

I personally am happy that gay and lesbian people are aloud to get married, feels like a step in the right direction as far as tolerance goes. I get that some people still feel its not right, but at the end of the day if it doesn't directly effect you or hurt anyone, you shouldn't get involved.

I remember protests outside some of the first Civil Partnerships, but those have all seemed to die down.

I'm straight and Roman Catholic (technically, I NEVER go to church) but I'm fine with same sex marriage.

And I'd argue to toss with anyone that tells my friends who they should be spending there lives with.

Hi! To some extent I agree with the "if it's not hurting anyone, leave it alone" philosophy and I'm not going to get in a fight with anyone over their choice of partner. I've had some gay and bi friends and never bothered them about it. Though personally, there are a few issues that would likely arise from the wide-scale acceptance of same sex marriage that I worry about. I could go into them if you guys want me to, but I really don't want to start a big debate/fight on the subject.

Hark!

Witness now
Ye online crowd
A member from far history!
A red nosed chap
Whose posting gap
Is steeped in deep hilarity.
So if you do recall my name
Or even if my grin is new
Then raise your hand into the air
And our high five will echo true!

Hi.

Well, saw Wreck-It Ralph today and I must say...It was way better then I expected. Loved the movie and I'm with Josiah, will get the DVD and abuse the pause button at least once :)

Loved the different references they placed, though missed the whole code thing but that is because I've never really played any of the game that it shows up in.

But yes, great movie and for those who haven't (I know you will soon Silver) you really should go see it :)
