Return of the Revenge of the Son of Saying Hi to Josiah!
Re: Return of the Revenge of the Son of Saying Hi to Josiah!
Hi! I made it to Austin and spent quite a while this afternoon walking around downtown for fun (the conference starts tomorrow).
You've got the wrong idea about GDC, BFC. It's the Game Developers' Conference. As in, it's for people who make games. If you don't make games, there really isn't much of anything there that would interest you. It's not like E3 with game demos and trailers and cool free stuff and all that (well, there is free stuff but it's mostly nothing to impressiver). There's a bunch of lectures about different aspects of making games (art, programming, distribution, writing, design, etc) which can be interesting if you're in that field, but are fairly boring otherwise (they're lectures, not fancy game presentations of anything. There's also an expo, but once again no fancy game demos or anything. It's a mix of companies showing off hardware and software that game companies may want to buy ("here's a new physics program", "here's a program that handles billing for online games", etc) and some boots for game companies looking to fill various job openings (the main reason I'm here). So yeah, it's a conference for professionals or wanna-be professionals to compare notes, network, and check out new tech they might want to use. I'm a game designer and even I find a lot of the expo (and some of the lectures, for that matter) to be pretty boring. Probably not something you'd enjoy. Plus you need to register in advance and it's really expensive.
If you want to go to a big game show where they've got a bunch of new and upcoming games on display, you'd want E3 (except you won't be able to get in), the Tokyo Game Show (though it's in Tokyo so that's a pretty long and expensive trip) or the Penny Arcade Expo (not as much cool new stuff, but much easier go to).

Moi...
Ugh...I have a bad cold....everything I eat tastes like cardboard, and I just feel overall bad...I don't want to go to school tomorrow....or do anything in general...It looks like it's time to ask my mom (the nurse) about something (anything) I can do to feel better.

Hey.
First pit orchestra rehearsal for Rent was today! And... it was me and two music teachers that could make it. Uhm! Hopefully, we're getting a kid to play the other guitar part, but otherwise... THEY'RE ALL ADULTS WHO ARE REALLY GOOD AT MUSIC >.<
I'm having so much fun with it, though. The guy on keyboard I (I'm on II) was singing along to all the songs, and it was hilarious when he was singing Mimi's part. I'm struggling to keep up, and today I had the WORST keyboard I've ever played on (seriously... it has about two fewer octaves than my one at home, and that's saying something and the synth instruments were TERRIBLE)... but its still so much fun to play this music :D
Well... marching band later today! Having issues with an AP Physics problem, if anyone thinks they can solve it:
There's a box weighing 422N lying on a table, and there is a rope attatched to it going to the right. It goes around the corner of the table (on a pulley) and connects to a box weighin 185 N. Ignoring all frictional effects and assuming the pully to be massless, find the acceleration of the two blocks and the tension in the cord.
I don't understand tension very much... he didn't explain it very well... and I've got to go to marching band for a few hours in like five minutes >.<

Hi.
And that is probably going to be a similar problem I'm going to have on my test today.

Hey!
Archery club began today, and it was AWESOME. I shot a 23 my first round out of 5 shots. Not too bad... Though I saw some hit over a 30. Just made abunch of new friends and hopefully we'll plan a party sometime. Peace out!

Greetings~!
Lacrosse is amazingly frustrating... It's not that I'm terrible, it's that I have trouble scooping up the ball.
-flashbacks-
Me: *drops ball* Oops, I guess I have to pick it up.
Teacher's Voice in the Side of my Mind: You're not allowed to simply pick up the ball. You have to scoop it up with the pole.
Me: Oh... *tries scooping up ball, it rolls* ... *tries again, and it continues rolling*
some 5 or 7 minutes later....
Teacher: Gym is over!
Me: ....
Teacher: Now but away your ball and pole.
Me: ... Well darn... *tries scooping again and it rolls*
-flash back end-
Maybe it's just my problem XD

Hey.
Hate compound bows, they take out the fun >.<
SO PHYSICS YUM YUM
The samples won't delay, but the cable...
There's another way. Say something, anything.
Test 1, 2, 3!
...anything but that.
Back when I actually did archery, like... 3-4 years ago... I could shoot a 30 in 3 shots from.... 40 feet, I believe, with my recurve bow :D I kind of dreamed of being like Robin Hood.Metalheadz wrote:Hey!

Hi.
Really? Just noticed that and one hasn't been made yet cause the only 2 people above the 7500 both have a special title.

Hi!
This should be entertaining :D I was kinda hoping that I'd be the one to catch up to Silver and Josiah, but I've settled down now to a more... regular schedule.

Hi! Those post ranks do exist, they just aren't lised in the FAQ since no one has them yet. Well, technically Silver and I do but we have special titles so they don't display.
So, first day of GDC wasn't bad. Today and tomorrow and kinda my go to sessions and network days. Thursday is my go around the expo and look for a job day. And Friday is the day to wrap up anything that's left then go home. Unfortunately, I kinda suck at networking. I'm fine once a conversation is going, but I'm not great at starting them with random people. And that aside, it seems that the vast majority of the people I end up meeting when networking are also fairly new to the industry and looking for work. Some nice guys, sure. But not much of a help when it comes to my job search.
