I don't eat fish, so what do I care. *sarcasm*
My dad works in a coal power plant. It would be a clean coal power plant, but no one in our state will let them build. And they wonder why the price of electricity is high. Nuclear is the most efficient and least polluting energy source we can make. Not to mention we have the technology to reduce the half-life of radioactive substances by around half. There's only been two meltdowns ever recorded Chernobyl and Three-Mile Island, both were simple to avoid human errors, and now we know better.
And dead fish decompose and create methane.

Cows crap and the crap makes methane too, OMG KILL THE COWS! </sarcasm>
And personally, from best to medium, here's my suggested order of electricity making:
1)Nuclear Fusion (Like fission but better though I don't think we can do it yet)
2)Hydroelectricity (If you can power a whole province with it then it can't be that bad)
3)Nuclear Fission (With adequate safeguards of course, the only pollutant is radioactive refuse...and steam)
4)Wind power (Rather inefficient, big)
5)Solar power (Quite inefficient)
Did I miss anything?

Damn, I forgot that gas( mainly air) gets trapped in ice...

Ugh, these things are way too big for the small amount of juice they get. I've passed by fields which literally have hundreds of [definitely forgot the name, something like windmill i guess], and its incredible to think of all the space each one takes up.Shadowman wrote:4)Wind power (Rather inefficient, big)
Also, the reason that ice takes up more space than liquid water is because water is polar - it has a negative side and a positive side. When it freezes, the water collects into these crystal shapes, which end up having a lot of empty space. When it melts, all the water in the ice fills the empty space back up.

Are they called Turbines?NabMaster wrote: I've passed by fields which literally have hundreds of [definitely forgot the name, something like windmill i guess]

Yes. Turbines. I'm pretty sure you need multiple to even power one house, but I may be wrong. Also, I don't like dead birds. Animals are too stupid to get out of the road... and apparently miss semi-stationary objects.

Ugh, university is killing me. I got the lowest mark I've ever gotten today - on a midterm!
Definitely not good...I'm not doing so hot in physics either, mostly because I've never taken it before, and I have my midterm tomorrow, with a teacher who has a 75% fail rate. I've been studying like mad, but I'm really, Really worried.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
If you're really, really worried you're almost certain to do bad. Relax a bit. Remind yourself that you KNOW this stuff. you have been studying like mad and you're going to do fine for this exact reason.
Chillax, make yourself a cup of tea. Don't even glance in the general direction of your books on the day of the test. You've done all you can do now.
It's time for you to get into that exam room, surprise the teacher (who wioll be expecting failure) with some good marks.
You seem like a a pretty bright guy. You can do it.
... Oh god, I just gave you the exact advice my parents and teachers used to give me and my classes... I hate it when authority figures are right! lol.

Re: The Official Rant Thread
Speaking of school, I'm kinda pissed off at math right now.
My teacher is really nice, but today she gave us a quiz where the first half was on solving systems of equations and the second half was on radicals.
The first half was fairly easy (minus one question wehre everything was damn fractions!), but we'd barely touched on the second half. I knew how to simplify radicals, which was a couple of the questions, but the others were on adding, multiplying and dividing radicals.
Why I'm angry is that nearly everone in class (except ones who had private tutors or went to private schools)didn't know how to add, multiply or divide radicals until yesterday, when she taught us. IN THE LAST 5 MINUTES OF CLASS! Seriously!
She said she'd review it today, since she spent about 3 minutes telling us how to add radicals, 30 seconds telling us how to divide and another 30 telling us how to multiply! GAH!
Of course I forgot since we were practically walking out the door when she was telling us this!
Practically everyone forgot, and was leaving the class muttering something about failing. I count myself among those people. The quiz was supposed to take 15 minutes, but ended up taking an hour and 20 minutes! Some people weren't even able to finish! It was impossible!
*mutters angrily*

Hmm sounds like me today, I definitely forgot the equations for friction. There goes about 1/3 of my test marks on that one.
Oh, and the test I did really bad on before, 33% for calculus. Dang infinite limits...

Grrr...
I am SO pissed off at my Science teacher right now.
When he assigns homework, he asks us to go on the school website and print out the pages. Problem is, all he tells us to do is print pages from a certain folder. He doesn't say WHICH pages. Last time, I ended up doing much more work than was needed.
So, we got assigned homework. I printed it out, and it came to a total of 30 or so pages! At this rate, we'll be out of paper before we know it, not to mention I'm doing a crapload of extra work. He didn't even check the work last time, but I'm not taking the risk that he suddenly will.
Grrrr...why couldn't he print it out and make it nice and double sided. Save a few thousand trees at the rate I'm going.
I feel like punching a wall right now....

Equasions for friction? Like Cooefficient of friction? I FORGOT THAT TOO!! (When I did that in Physics) I looked at it later and went GAH!! NO WAYY!!! Becasue it's a REALY easy equation...NabMaster wrote:Hmm sounds like me today, I definitely forgot the equations for friction.
