Life is full of ups and downs, without the downs we don't really appreciate the ups. However, I hope everything works out for everyone :-)

It looks like the thing with my friend and I are over, we're parting ways. I can't change her mind, and I respect her enough not to force the situation. On the good side of things, she was kind enough to listen to my request and came back from her silence long enough to let me vent - not angry venting mind you, just saying some things that needed saying. Hopefully now I can sleep peacefully, with all of this off my chest.

Hey.

Hope it all works out for you, Nab.

Yeah... my life... it just... just holy crap, alright? I... it... I DON'T EVEN KNOW! There was... and he... he likes me! He does! I never... after.... it can happen again!? I'd... I'd just thought... but.... I don't know! I had convinced myself... that he wouldn't... wouldn't... couldn't... but... last time... should I try?

Oh. My. God. I just don't know anymore.

Yeah, I think a lot of hypnosis is as much convincing yourself that you're hypnotized as anything else (so in some respects its a big placebo). When I saw the show, about half the people who initially went up on stage got sent off at one point or another because it wasn't really working on them. That'd totally be me.
Basically, hypnotism gives people an excuse to "act like a chicken" without social repurcussion, since, after all, it was under hypnosis.

Um...congratulations, Saber? I think. I can't really be sure how to respond to...that....post.

And, in my final piece of news, the Stevenson Internet Drought of '09 is indeed over. My internet is back and I am reconnected to this wonderful series of tubes.

Thanks Saber, now I'm not sure if it is over or not, haha this is such a roller coaster-like ordeal - she sent me a very tired email at 4:30am her time basically saying she does want to stay together but (she keeps saying this...) that I'd probably be happier without her.

Well, without really knowing much about what happened between you two I can't give you a definite answer, but it definitely sounds like you two ended on good terms, so I'd say why not? :-)

Edit: Forgot to say, after a triple dose of that sedative tea (the "good night" herbal blend I think it's called) and some St John's Wort, I finally managed a good 4 hours of sleep! Sooo much better than unintentional all nighters! ;-D

Hi! Glad to hear you're back, Stevenson. I think I'd go crazy if my internet was out for more than a day or two (mostly because I'd keep thinking of lots of stuff I should be doing but can't without it).

Saber... Um...good...luck...? Wow, even I don't use elipses that much. On a somewhat related note, I'm generally glad that I avoided all that junior high / high school/ etc relationship drama in my own life.

On an unrelated note, I should get on AIM and MSM more.

On another unrelated note, I should go sprite things for my game.

Hello.

So, in the college newspaper they wrote an article about H1N1 being spotted in the college and they gave the guys name! How mean is that? If you're diagnosed with the virus and the newspaper tells your name? Now like, no one would want to be near you. Oh, oh so sad.

When I saw the first word of this statement, I started laughing in a way that you could not possibly understand. And I probably would have seemed deranged. I just found it really, really funny... that while discussing something relating to psychology, you used the word "basically".

So let me tell you about my Psychology professor. She says "Basically"... a lot. No, I mean... a lot. I didn't think much of it on the first day of class, but by the second I was curious: just how many times did she use that word? So I started keeping count the next time. Class typically lasts for 75 minutes. 52 times. Ok, that's pretty crazy, but everyone has their pet phrases. Next class, 63 times. That's more than my sisters says "like", that's really weird. Next class was 76. With that, she said "basically" at least once every minute. After that it was 69, then 64, then 81 and a half (she was interrupted mid-basically), and then we had a class that was cut short to about 30 minutes because she didn't bring the notes she had prepared... in those 30 minutes, she still said it 41 times.

After that, I told a friend who has the same class and same teacher but at a different time about my discovery, and he said he found it a bit strange too. He started to count as well. My next result was 81; his was 73. Then I got 89, he never gave me his count. In the most recent count, in my class she got up to 92 "basically"s, once using it three times in the same sentence ("He's basically the one that basically brought psychology to the laboratory publicly, basically." I kid you not), and in Joe's - this is the one to beat - 101 "basically"s. So if I had a dog for every time she said basically, I'd have 101 dalmatians. Does anyone else think that's... unhealthy?

Somewhat unrelated, Colly hates me for telling her about this. She can't take the word "basically" seriously any more. I'll tell you I certainly can't.

And that's basically what happened here.
"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Oi!

Well, I've been rather busy for a while. All I can say is if any of you choose a triple major, keep your club count under 4 before you get hooked in them... I was at 7 and now I'm down to 4 and I'm not dropping the rest. :drop2:
Hopefully, if my schedule doesn't change too much (considering I put in my requests first day) I'll have two classes tuesday and one thursday. That's a lot of free time compared to my 3, 3, 4, 3, 4 schedule this year. Also, all my classes are back to back, and close to each other, so no more boring 1 hour breaks that aren't good for much of anything.

Well, congrats Saber! Or perhaps, good luck. The game of love can be fickle; just roll with it. It can be one of the most fun games this world has to offer. On that note, another ex to my list, I'm thinking of not dating again for a while (again). But I'm just going to see what happens.

So, basically, hypnotism is the readiness to accept suggestion, yes. Hypnotism interested me a while back, especially self-hypnotism, but I found meditation more effective. It's actually about the same. Everyone has an amount of suggestibility, if you doubt it, try calling people's names, I guarantee they will look almost every time they hear you. Hypnotism is just making someone relaxed enough that they react to commands as well. You cannot, however, make someone do what they do not want to through hypnotism. And some people do not want to be hypnotized.

Also, I still can't find my password for Photobucket.

"In early June 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared the outbreak to be a pandemic, but also noted that most of the illnesses were of moderate severity. As of 11 October 2009 WHO worldwide update stated that "74 countries have officially reported over 399,232 laboratory confirmed cases of the influenza pandemic H1N1 infection, including 4,735 deaths."
The illness is generally mild, except in some cases for people in higher risk groups, such as those with asthma, diabetes, obesity, heart disease, pregnancy, or have a weakened immune system. In addition, even in people who were previously healthy, secondary infections, such as those caused by bacterial pneumonia or a relapse of the illness with worse symptoms, are considered very serious and require medical treatment.[4]
Like other influenza viruses, novel H1N1 influenza is spread by coughing, sneezing, or touching contaminated surfaces and then touching the nose or mouth. Symptoms, which last up to a week, are similar to those of seasonal flu, and can include fever, sneezing, sore throat, cough, headache, and muscle or joint pains. To avoid spreading the infection, the CDC recommended that those with symptoms stay home from school, work, and crowded settings; in general, wearing facial masks was not recommended, except in health care settings.[5]"
- taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2009_flu_pandemic

So as you can see, the mortality rate is really, really low - about 1%. Are the amount of deaths higher than normal? No. According to the CDC, an average of 36,000 Americans (note: 1 country compared to 74) die via seasonal flu each year on average. The symptoms are really weak and I can tell you from my own firsthand experience (there was an enormous outbreak here and I caught it. Felt cruddy, and about a week later I felt perfectly fine again) that compared to the flu outbreaks of other years, swine flu is laughable.

Anyways, the total disrespect to that guy's privacy? Yeah that's not cool.

Silver, that's...wow. I have no words for that.

Triple major Poik? What are you going for?

Hi! Wow Silver, that's crazy. Usually people who speak in public a lot (like teachers) don't have those kind of speech issues. Though I've also got to wonder how boring the class is if you have nothing better to do than count how many times the teacher uses the word basically...

To Poik, there's a reasson I'm only in one club in college (most I've ever been in at once was two), I even skip one night's meeting each week. And I only have one major...

Swine Flu, huh? Yeah, the media blew the entire thing WAAAAAAAAY out of proportion, which caused people to panic, lowered tourism, and generally caused a whole lot of unneccessary trouble. Heck, last time I was back home in CO, the local TV news was actually doing a story on whether or not the media was spending too much time covering swine flu. :smack: Their conclusion was that they really weren't because everyone should know just in case (big surprise there). :eyeroll: Wouldn't be surprised if the government has something to do with the media blitz as well, just to try and get the focus on the economy.

Oi.

Computer Science, Computer Engineering, and Applied and Discrete Mathematics. I really wish more of the repeat courses in CS and CpE would could in both majors. I need 186 credits as it is, which actually can be done in 4 years without summer school, but I plan to get a job at VT during the summer to lighten the load a bit. Also, For one semester more, I could quadruple major. And I still have no idea when I'm going to take those Japanese classes :drop2: I figured it was easier to drop a major than add one, so I went all out from the beginning.

At least my majors are related though, I've heard of quadruple majors (at MIT as well as here) who have, basically, a language major, an engineering major, an arts major, and insert something completely different here. Those are the insane ones in my humble opinion. I'm only slightly mad.

Back to homework.
