Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Red and Blue were packed with memory. Like, so much that they temporarily remove your name just to show the tutorial guy's name. So this was exploited by people when it was found that the cove of Cinnibar had no wild Pokemon data. That's how Missingo came to be.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
From an official story perspective, there's no reason given and character frequently capture KO'd pokémon in the anime and manga. Looking at it from a gameplay perspective, the reason is that it's much more challenging to capture a weakened pokémon than to just KO one. Imagine how easy it'd be to catch legendaries if all you had to do was KO them. It's just too easy. Pebble Version has its own story explanation (it's the way pokéballs work thanks to petitions by an animal rights group), but I can't remember which strip it's in.
Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
The animal instantly teleports away after it faints. Magically.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Actually, I believe the fainting conundrum is a throw-back to when the Pokemon bled when cut. Catching a dead Pokemon is pointless. Of course, they no longer die, so that rule is a little displaced.
Nah, Ditto's just too cool for that. Ditto mocks the other Pokemon by beating them as themselves, 'cause that's how cool it is.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Because dittos don't have a good enough memory to transform in to something they're not observing-in the anime they transform in to objects that aren't in their vision, but inanimate objects are infinitley less complicated then living creatures like pokemon.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
In the Pokémon Adventures (aka Pokémon Special) manga, they do some really clever tricks with ditto. You may see some nods to that in PV eventually. Let's just say that May has a ditto in the link banner for a reason...

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
You know what I want to officially discuss?
How ridiculous some legendaries are to capture. I'm not even talking about the roaming legendaries - Latias, Latios, Mesprit, Cresselia - screw 'em, they were easy. ...Master Ball. No, I don't mean Uxie, either. Today, I finally engaged in the dreaded task of capturing the Regis. I put it off for a long time... The whole Braille puzzle, and evolving a Wailmer... But I resolved to do it today. And so I did.
The Braille puzzle was fun. We went out to dinner for Mother's Day, I sat there in the IHOP transcribing Braille onto the back of Melvin's Kids Menu. Normal 17 year olds don't do that, that's ok. That's not what I'm here to talk about.
So I went after Regice first. I had that thing at 1 HP, False Swipe'd, and asleep for part of the time... it woke up later. I threw 30 Ultra Balls at that thing and still couldn't catch it. It KO'd itself with Struggle. Thank God I saved beforehand, got it on the second try, at the expense of 25 friggin' Ultra Balls...
Still had 25 left, went directly after Regirock. False Swipe and Sleep again - it had no chance. Except that it did. I used up all 25 of my Ultra Balls, thought hope was lost, and tossed a Great Ball just for the lulz.
And I caught it.
Seriously? I wasted 25 Ultra Balls when a Great Ball would've done the job just fine?
That just left Registeel. By this time, I wasn't messing around. I went and bought 50 Ultra Balls, 25 Timer Balls, and 50 Great Balls, just to be safe. I False Swiped it and put it to sleep, prepared to spend a good amount of time tossing whatever I've got and...
Six.
I caught it with the sixth Ultra Ball I used.
So you know what I've got to say? The moral of the story? Regigigas better be freaking worth it.

"Irregardless" and "Over exaggerated" are NEVER CORRECT EVER because they are redundant
Regardless means "without regard", and adding "ir" on the front actually makes it a double negative; exaggerate means "to overstate" so you're literally saying "over overstate."
Example: I can not exaggerate the importance of this fact enough, regardless of how often people ignore it.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Sorry to break it to you Silver, but Regigas is pretty much useless in battle. But hey, it adds an entry to your pokédex...
I'll agree though, legendaries have a tendency to be ridiculously hard to catch, unless you get lucky. What's really annoying is that, every once in a while, you'll get a normal pokémon like that. In Diamond I went through something like 20 Great Balls trying to catch a low level Onyx...

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
Wow, that's obnoxious. I never went after the Regi's, though my cousin (the 10 year old with the 100 Marshtop or Swampert or whatever, I always get them confused
) did. Well, he's not 10 now, and he also lost his old Sapphire version. Man.
The very same cousin was playing Pokemon XD: Gale of Darkness at my house. He had gotten to Shadow Lugia, and was getting absolutely sick of trying to catch him and was about to just start over, but I said to try one more time. For the heck of it, I told him to use a Pokeball.
It worked. WTF?!
Uxie also KO'ed itself when I was fighting it. Darn struggle. Finally caught it on my 2nd shot...no wait, I think it was my 3rd.

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
I hate when the game does that. You waste about 40 Ultra Balls and Great balls trying to catch a legendary, then you catch it with something random, like a Lure Ball. I think I caught Suicune with something like that. Of course, I can't use my Crystal version anymore, because everytime I try to load, it says "The save file is corrupted!"
If you smell something burning, it's my heart.

I can't use my Gold Version 'cos it never saves. Well, you CAN save, but when you turn the game back on it's not there any more. *sigh*

Re: Official Pokemon Discussion Thread
That means the save game battery in the cartridge is dead, Saber. You can actually replace the battery in old game cartridges so they'll save again, but you need to get a gamebit screwdriver online so you can open up the cartridge without damaging it.
