Okay, the begining of this is a little odd but bear with it please. What this was is the begining of a story I was writing but it became a question of the relation between chaos and peace. All the points in this are related to one another and come to gether at the end. I am not implying here that rain has sentience nor am I using the correct definition of element. What I mean by element here is simply the basis of the world without getting into specific details.

This is also not a theory on the meaning of life, simply the meaing of peace and chaos and their relation to one another.

Last note is that this is only part one of this chapter.

The Essence of Chaos in its Relation to Peace

Rain sprinkled the ground around where she lay. Time seamed to stop in its never-ending course, trapping this place, this child. The rain continued in its own way, but the wind held no purpose here. It neither blew nor moved, as if it too was afraid. The rain denied the existence of fire, though the flames of heat remembered its place among beginning. And though rain in its course falls to the ground, here too, the earth was denied its presence.

Rain is an element of water, it deems itself as an eternal constant as it changes with environment, yet never changes its nature. It defines life and considers itself more vital then the rest. When water moves it can cause both blessing and disaster, but it is never harmed itself. It carries within itself many forms of life but does not need nor care for those that depend upon it. So it is conceited and powerful, a thing that will forever be fought with and against, but non would dare destroy.

Yet so it can also be said that rain is not water. For rain rises from water and watches from the skies upon the other elements, changed by the wind and the earth, even fire can control its essence. So rain which remembers the vanity of water brings itself one to the other and descends again upon the earth, seeking the wholeness it once had in the past, yet it returns only to find a new place, a new water. So the rain becomes one with this new place of its element yet ever yearns for the place of the past. Thus is the chaos that is the element of water endures upon itself and its pride.

Chaos can be measured many ways according to the scope of its presence and its power. Water is one whole being, but also is it many. It moves and changes in an everlasting constant but so it remembers the pride of its power. This chaos is of the waters own making but also it is true that it has no control over its own fate. So the delicate balance of pride and power consumes its mind as it seeks to return itself to itself. The balance, which is its power as well as its burden, drives itself mad with the passing of years.

So is the element of water confined to itself, an individual being but never separate from that which sustains the rest of the world. That which it is required for, that which it hates, that which fights it but will never destroy it. That which is life.

As water is chaos, so is life a greater chaos. For life not only withstands the chaos of water, but the chaos of all the other elements, as well as life itself. Even if one were to understand all that is the chaos of water, the understanding of the chaos of life is far from that ones grasp. So water understands this as it understands itself.

If there is chaos then there is also the desire for peace. From this desire is chaos itself greatly made. So water knows this as well. For peace to destroy all chaos first time must end. Time, which is the second greatest element, is the only element that cannot end. Though water may dry up, fire fizzle down, wind never again blow, earth rot to nothing, light never more shine, and darkness return to nothiness so time will continue on. Even life will end.

Life, though made from and is reliant upon all of the elements, is the strongest element of all. For life can not only control the other elements, but change them to its own will as well. Life is also the only thing that is capable of understanding chaos. So life is the only one that can obtain peace.

Peace is the ultimate goal of all that exists. Though the elements and life itself is prone towards chaos, chaos is how it seeks out its peace. No matter how chaotic the elements, life, the world, and even existence itself shall ever have and ever be but chaos, everything longs in its own way for peace.

So it can be said that creating chaos is to obtain peace, but that chaos itself may be the only peace it ever obtains. So chaos continues as it was created to be, always longing for never coming peace. So peace itself becomes chaos and the will of chaos.

So if one is able to understand all that is chaos, one will be able to obtain peace. But the understanding of peace is understanding of life itself. Though one has life and is capable of understanding chaos, chaos too must understand freedom.

Freedom in its true sense is the total absence of responsibility. When freedom is obtained though, the chaos that is the nature of existence brings about destruction and in the end great chaos. Thus true freedom is chaos and the abandonment of peace. Thus responsibilities are placed upon freedom to limit that which is chaos. When freedom is limited it can no longer be called freedom but is instead bondage. So nature wishes to return to its chaos in its search for peace. So does it seek to create peace of mind.

Peace of mind is an essence both chaos and peace. Though life and elements may be in chaos, ones mind seeks peace within itself and the chaos creating peace. Though it is not true peace, it is the closest form of peace that life has found in its quest. Though it is easier to choose chaos in search of peace, peace of mind accepts that which is chaos. So it understands chaos is peace itself. Yet this form of peace is as fragile as thin glass, for the chaos that surrounds it seeks to destroy the peace it could not obtain itself. So chaos rages against that which it seeks, and destroys peace of heart.

Peace of heart is another form of peace, yet completely different then peace of mind, for peace of mind is of ones thoughts, whereas peace of the heart is of ones emotions. Chaos of the heart can be far deeper then the chaos of the mind, for chaos of the mind is of logical conclusions, whereas chaos of the heart is of the irrational emotions that are the basis and blessing of life itself. That which could be said that makes us human. Emotions are chaos in its truest form, for emotions are that which allow us to feel love and pain. Without these things life becomes a soulless being with no meaning. So peace of the heart is the acceptance of these basic emotion and understanding that chaos is the search for peace. In accepting chaos, chaos leaves the emotions and peace can truly be felt.

But even though emotions can be the cause of inner chaos quieting them and causing peace does not create real peace. For peace is the absence of chaos and though the inner being may have found peace, the outside life and elements will continue in their course of chaos.

So as chaos will always exist, so will the quest for peace. Thus life is chaos as well as peace, the two are as one, yet separate at the same time. Just as water is one, yet separate. So the end of chaos and the coming of peace is the end of elements, life, and the existence itself. Thus peace is the end of time.

Interesting... Reads more like an essay than a story but your writing is pretty solid.

Chapter 1 Part 2

The rain resided in its course, and wind once more blew in its way. Fire sparked itself and gave off the warmth of its gentle fury, as earth retained its presence its surface grew and flourished. The image of the child grew in its form and mind and a young girl lay cold on the wet ground.

The storm that had seemed to stop time faded away in nothing but memory parted the clouds and light shown in early dawn, but the animals stayed in their dens and shivered in the cold. As darkness changed into light the surrounding land shown forth in the brilliance of nature revealing a calm grassland with scattered trees about its long stretches. Not far to the south the sound of waves crashed about the shore, shouting its presence to those that would hear. Far to the north and west raged the earth?s mighty presence of its great mountains, and in the west the wind blew its song along the trees and caves.

All of the world sang its song to the one who lay cold upon the wet soil. Her form now fully taken she drew within herself the breath of wind, and felt the fire of life against the cold water and earth. Her mind sought out questions but was rewarded with nothing but the chaos of the nothingness of her mind. Questions without words or language tugged at her mind as she tried to understand how to move and breath and feel. Though she knew and understood nothing her eyes took in the beauty that was her first sight, her ears absorbed the sounds of the land and animals around here, her hands felt the smooth and soft texture of the grass and water in which she lay. She tasted the cool wind upon her face and drew in the scents of fallen rain.

Questions without words, thought without language coursed through her empty mind as she sought purpose. She sought the meaning of that which existed about her, and the meaning to the life which she now experienced. She felt the softness of the long white cloak which draped its wet cloth on her soaked body. The meaning of the clothing was lost on her fresh mind but its smooth texture felt pleasant on her fingertips.

Pleasant, her first feeling of emotion rooted itself in her learning mind. She tried to understand this feeling but without words and wisdom it only created more chaos in her mind. She had not knowledge to draw upon that which was good, and that which was bad. For now her only state was that which was pleasant, such as the fabric, and that which was unpleasant, such as the cold chill the water gave her body.

The chaos of her thoughts made a language without words within its new mind. It drew upon the emotions the pleasant feeling and the unpleasant feeling and considered itself wise.

The girl lay there for some time then she pushed herself against the ground trying to push the unpleasant cold from her body. She succeeded in moving the ground and sat upright against the ground. But the unpleasant cold continued on her legs and she sought to push away the ground from her legs. But she stayed on the ground unable to push it away with her arms, and the ground clung to her body.

The girl moved her legs trying to push the ground away with them but first only succeeded in knocking her body back to the clingy ground. The girl feeling highly unpleasant with the ground thrashed her arms and legs about trying strongly to push away the ground that clung to her body and made her unpleasantly cold. She threw about her arms and slammed them against the ground.

Pain, her arm was unpleasant after the strong push she had tried. It stung and throbbed at her and all the girl could do was to cry at its unpleasantness.

Crying, water fell from her eyes and clouded them slightly. Strange feelings she had no word for, no feeling for filled her being. An emotion that was highly unpleasant and tugged at her inner being. She calmed down and the chaos of her mind lessened some.

Learning from the last time she tried to push away the unpleasant cold ground, the girl slowly pushed her arms and legs and managed only to keep the ground to cling only to her feet. Standing atop the ground her vision could see farther about her and she wondered at which she did not understand. A soft wind blew and almost made the ground again cling to her whole body but she managed to keep it only on her feet.

After a time she became bored with what she saw and wished to see more of what was about her. She turned her head towards the sky and towards the clinging ground but soon became tired of that as well. She sought to push the earth farther away from her, but it clung heavy to her feet and almost made her whole body cling to it again. So the girl thought without words and sought to push the earth a different way away from her. She slowly lifted and outstretched her leg slowly and put it in the direction that her eyes looked.

The earth moved away from her slightly but came back in another area. But here she was not where she had been before and could see slightly more of that which was about her. She continued to do this for a while slowly at first, but as she learned from the way she pushed the earth she began to do it faster and more often.

She found that the more she pushed the earth in this manner the more she could see the things about her. Smell became different in other places, the clinging ground beneath her changed shape and hardness in other areas. The wind on her face blew at different strengths and blew different tastes in her mouth. The sounds changed their type and pitch still in other areas.

The more things her chaotic mind grasped the faster she wished to know them. She pushed away the ground faster and harder from her and the wind blew in her eyes. The places she saw flew by her faster and faster as the large amount of tall colored things grew closer to her. The chaos that was her mind without words drew in these emotions, these memories into her being and drove her faster to try to understand that which was her life.

The girl ran so fast that it became harder to keep the ground from clinging to her whole body. She swayed in her flight towards places she didn?t understand when a hard object caught her foot and she slid across the clinging ground.

Pain, the same that had taken her arm when she pushed against the ground covered most her body. Something red flowed from her leg onto the cold ground and stuck itself in the soil. She lay their trying to comprehend the greatly unpleasant feeling in her body. She tried to will it to stop but it spread throughout her whole body and she simply lay their hoping it would end.

Hope, is that simply the wish for something to end. She wished for the unpleasantness to end. So was this hope her will to push away the pain.

As she laid there for some time her pain lessened and her legs tingled. The girl didn?t feel up to pushing at the earth again so she pulled at the long green thread that lay all around the earth. The pulled on and wondered at how it separated from the other similar structures of its kind. She rubbed it against her fingers and it felt similar, but greatly different to the cloth that draped her. After a time it broke apart and left something similar to the water on her fingertips, but did not come off as easily. She rubbed against her fingers again and again but it left more steaks of itself till she rubbed it against the cloth that draped her. The strange streaks came mostly off of her fingers and left themselves upon the cloth.

The girl didn?t like streaks so she sought to give the threads some unpleasantness as well. She tore at many of them and pushed them at the earth and the wind took them away from her. She did this over and over again but the amount around her never seemed to lessen. After a time the girl stared very unpleasantly at the many long threads and wondered why there was more than simply one. Wondering at this the girl pushed herself against the earth again and looked about her.

Everywhere the girl looked she saw many of the same things. The many, many threads on the ground, the very tall things that branched out towards the sky, the sky with its strange fluffed objects, there were many of all of these, but there was only one of her.

Questions without words, thought without language, why was there only one of her. Why was she not one of these other things that were many. A strange feeling gripped her, far more unpleasant then pain, and anger, and the cold. A feeling that her mind trembled at, it formed without language but it tore at her heart all the same. Loneliness.

The chaos that was her mind grew in intensity. She tried to push away at this new discomfort but her heart ached at the thought of being the only one of its kind. Chaos without understanding grew and shattered her strength. She fell back to the clingy earth and felt that she returned from where she had begun.
